I received the Dai Vernon tapes a few days ago and have really enjoyed them. They urged me to want to buy something I have always wanted but never bought, The Magic of Michael Ammar.
I just have a few questions before ordering: 1. What are the included effects, sleights, essays? 2. Does he teach the effect he performed on the World's Greatest Magic in which he finds the four aces and their royal flush in 30 seconds. It looks like a Triumph/Ace Control, but I don't know the name. 3. Does he include his coin in bottle? (I know, this is redundant, but I doubt anyone will actually post all of the material included.) 4. Are there any notes on the topit? Jakks |

Hi,
This was one of my first ever magic books and it is top-notch! Even if it doesn't have all of the stuff in it that you're looking for, you will definitely find enough in here to make it worth your money. He teaches the cups and balls with the Vernon Wand Spin, some coin magic-- vanishes, spellbound, coin on ceiling, coin in pen cap (Williamson's striking vanish), an excellent pencil thru quarter routine, and YES, his Coin in Bottle Routine, and a few others. There is some excellent stand-up here as well: Silk to egg, indoor baseball, Billy balloon (a great routine for your super needled balloon), and a couple others. His Ring Band-it trick is a borrowed ring on rubberband routine, plus the broken and restored rubberband. His Classic Renditions are worth the price of the book IMO, especially his explanation of the Crazy Man's Handcuffs. He gives some subtleties and such that make this effect a killer. The essays and magic management tips are wonderful as well. He gives advice on designing custom cue sheets for each effect/ routine you use, and some other organizational hints. Eight Principles for Making Magic Memorable is also very good and then he ends with some advice on negotiating higher performance fees. You'll learn about 'flinching' and other useful things to watch for! And don't forget the trick that fooled Copperfield is in here as well: Incredible Coins Across. It's a very good one, but IMO it is not the best in the book. There is so much great material here that you will definitely find much that you can use! I'm not familiar with the trick he did on WGM, so I don't know if it's in here or not. It doesn't ring a bell, but I could be wrong. I don't recall seeing anything in here on Topits, either, but don't let that stop you from getting this classic of magic! Over 300 pages of incredible magic! |

I believe the effect that he performed on WGM was actually Derek Dingle's Roll Over Aces. The effect can be found in his book The Complete Works of Derek Dingle. There ya go!

I thought that The Magic of Michael Ammar was highly overrated, but there was some okay stuff in it. I have heard the same from many others. Kind of like that book...The Award Winnning Magic of John Cornelius. Both HIGHLY overrated!!!
????.....Yeah

Great book. Worth the price just for the theory and promotional advice. It also contains the Ice Man Cometh, which is well worth learning for the occasional private gig or party if you want to absolutely destroy a small audience. His topit design and pattern are in last year's lecture notes, which are also well worth owning.

Yeah, I'm getting the topit pattern and classic topit tapes as well. Another question, does he use the same topit Carl Cloutier does?

I think the effect you are talking about is on his "Easy To Master Card Miracles" Volume 1, and is called The Secret To A Perfect Royal Flush. He couples it with the Acrobatic Aces in the routine. I could be wrong as I haven't seen the WGM program in a while.

I think you are wrong. I haven't seen it in ages either, but I'm pretty sure it was Rollover Aces. Of course, I could be wrong, too.
Rollover Aces is a very advanced effect. Be prepared to work on your Zarrow's and riffle stacking.

Hi!
This is the Roll Over Aces from The Complete Works of Derek Dingle. I watched M. Ammar's act in 30 seconds on the TV program of "Masters of Illusion" Please check Genii Vol.65, Number 6 Page 23. Koji |

I recall that WGM and it was definitely "Rollover Aces" that he performed. It was awesome. I do like Ammar. He is knowledgeable and an outstanding teacher. I just wish he didn't come off so much like an infomercial host in his performances.

Don't overlook the chapter on the Crazy Man's Handcuffs.
