There is a sign outside of my township building announcing a turkey shoot. Just what happens at a turkey shoot? Do they shoot farm raised turkeys that are unable to run, fly, or walk away?

It's usually just a trap or skeet shooting contest where they give away a frozen turkey.

Vandy is correct. In Georgia the targets looked like turkeys and often were held up by idiots behind hay stacks. Who ever wins gets a frozen turkey.

The term Turkey Shoot came about before the competitions as described above.
Turkeys are notoriously EASY to hunt and shoot. During a battle (between humans) if one side had an easy go of it to mow down the enemy it was considered a 'Turkey Shoot'.

Well Tim
I don't own a gun, but if a turkey shoot is cool with Sgt. York (Gary Cooper) it is cool with me too. GOBBLE GOBBLE

Sgt. York was a good dude. I read an article on him in National Geographic and he used money he earned as a speaker to build a school and museum etc up where he came from. They had to drag the components up by mule so he paid for a road too. For those who have not read about him he was one of the greatest hero in WW1 and he was a peaceful man. Another interesting guy is that Audy Murphy, he was motivated by pure anger though....

Wow, no one here has hunted wild turkey (Not the delicious drink you ***s).
Let me drop the 411 (Vernacular): Go hunting deer in turkey country when it's not turkey season... Turkeys will scare the **** out of you pretending to be a flock of giant mutant quail and land 30 yards ahead of you and laugh. More of a turkey laugh.... Go hunt wild turkey (Again, ***). you will not see or hear anything. There is always one or two retarded turkey, but we're talking a majority (Bastards.... sorry, I mean ***s). So the next time you go disparaging the difficulty in murdering our wonderful National Turkey, ask yourself why Turkey hunters buy these? But don't get scared, cause it's safe.

Pal of mine lived out in the sticks and was going to go turkey hunting in an area with lots of 'em. He walked out his door, one was at the end of his pateo, he shot it, and that was it for the hunt.

Like I said, retarded turkeys, probably inbred like all the folk out there in the sticks.
