Oscarp - your post was very interesting. Thanks. Maybe someday somebody will right a good book about this intersting 'soap opera' of mentalism.

Jim S's HIDING THE ELEPHANT touches upon some of that in the magic world... and that was fascinating - especially the stealing of secrets.

Chris Angel shows what a classy guy he is. He threatens to put Jim Callahan in the hospital and disrespects Copperfield.

I do not hate Chris Angel.
His behavior is disgusting to me. I hate it when people are hypocritical. His actions and statements appear to me to be the words and actions of a hypocrite. The things that he does, seem to me, to hurt the art of magical entertainment. I see no purpose for this other than to salve his ego and increase his wealth. At the same time, Dynamike, I would never expose him publicly. I would, however, tell my friends and people who trust me to tell them the truth, that he is dishonest in how he portrays what he does. Everybody has the right to their own views, even when mine are the only ones that are correct. Parson

That's the first time I've seen that one. I can't believe he threatened to have put Callahan in the Hospital..So classy! And he's already convicted Copperfield...Geez?
But now he sees himself as THE KING...Now something must be done about that. Sad thing is that these same folks want interviews with Jim but it's not happening. IMHO Quote:

Thanks kammagic and silvertongue.
Watched both those posts. Now I understand. Now I REALLY dislike Criss now ... (and yeah, I shouldn't have used the word hate in the title to this thread - sorry guys). GO ON JIM!

I guess I'm the only one who disagrees with everyone, but that's ok. I think that Jim's performance was ok. I've never seen another spirit channeler to compare to though. I did have a few problems with the overall performance and one of the main one was that what he did was on a stage in Hollywood (I'm assuming) and contacting the dead and it just so happens that when he contacts the dead it's just in time to start shooting.
Again, I know nothing about spirit chanelling, but this did seem odd to me. Also, this is a show that is about mentalism, not paranormalist stuff. And, I believe that Criss did nothing wrong. I am by no means a CA follower, I actually find his material and show to be just as disturbing as Jim's performance. I do admit that I might have done the same exact thing to Jim. If he really can contact the dead, don't you think he'd be on the floor shaking right then for a million bucks? Look, we all know what's going on here with "spirit channeling." Jim did his thing and Criss did not like it and he challenged him on it. Had Jim beeen on Criss' show then maybe he could have challenged him on some of his more outlandish stunts, but he wasn't. Jim, next time try to do a routine that's a bit more "mentalism" than the "I can talk to dead people" stuff. Just my 2cents, Josh London |

Josh - please check out the link provided by silvertongue if you have not done so already. If you still think, after watching that clip, that Criss's behaviour involves 'doing nothing wrong' then ... you must be quite a stubborn fellow!

I'd like to point out that Jim did say what he was doing was entertainment, and is the only performer that night to do so. He was the only person that was ridiculed and presented with a challenge.
Criss’ job as host is to provide commentary on the routines to better educate the viewers at home (who are judging with their votes). They (hosts) are not there to start fights, wrestle, or belittle the performers or the co-host. Nor are they there to continuously promote themselves over all the others there and take over the show, changing its direction with their own personal challenges. Nor are they there to violate the FCC guidelines on language, remember this is also a primetime show. What was done was base, insulting, ignorant, and showed no character. In his justification, for the event, he has ignored that it was the performance was presented as “entertainment” and there was a disclaimer applied to it by Jim (yet again, the only act to do so that night), he has accused Jim of treason, fraud, and a host of other things, things that he must also be guilty of as he has presented the same type of entertainment with even less of a disclaimer than Jim used. This, of course identifies him as a hypocrite (by his own words and actions). So, Josh, if you feel he was right in this, and are aware of the facts surrounding the event, and you also would have done the same thing Angel did; I’d have the same comments to you. The only video I saw that was associated with silvertongue was one that he quoted. If there's another one I didn't see it. But I did see that one and still believe the same thing. Who cares? As usual the Café is blowing this thing out of proportion.
Josh London P.S. I'm not stubborn, I just have a different opinion about this. I'm not stressing over this like you guys are because 3 months (if that) after the show ends, who's going to remember it was ever on? You, me, and the Café? Is it worth it? |

No, he is looking at it as a TV show; we are looking at it a bit differently because we have a different perspective. It is real to us, not just a bunch of dots of light on a screen. We know Jim, and this is not just reality (?) TV, it is real, and someone we know is involved and being hurt.

I apologize Josh London for my previous post. That was rude of me. I'm tired, it's been a long day, but that's no excuse. And I couldn't think of a better comeback. My bad. Sorry.
Tony - well said again.

Energizer, no worries. I, too would like to tell everyone I didn't like here what I thought about them, but then I remember, is it really a big deal in the grand scheme of things? Not really! Every single day I see people dealing with issues a lot bigger than we have going on here. Real issues like life and death. This right here is just a luxury.
Maybe that's the whole problem I have with this. Here's someone (Jim) who says he can talk to the dead. Everyone here and out there know's you can't, but ok, it's entertainment. However, Jim does not explain it to be entertainment on the show. It only comes up during the YouTube videos and such. Josh London |

I moved to the United States in March. Before that, I was performing professionally in Europe. No one, including myself, had ever heard of Criss Angel. Some knew of David Blaine and most certainly, they all knew David Copperfield and Uri Geller.
I did not learn of Criss until I discovered the Magic Forums online. I could not believe what his fan base were talking about. They made it sound like Criss was the last word in magic and all magicians before him paled in comparison. I purchased his Season 2 of Mindfreak to see for myself. At first I found the show entertaining, but then it occurred to me that most of the stuff he was doing was for a Television audience and could never be duplicated in a live setting. His so-called impromptu acts in front of innocent spectators seemed too impossible. I have been in magic for a very long time and if I do not know the exact method, it’s pretty easy to reverse-construct it to figure it out. I then became really irritated when his documentary style interviews began to repeat the same thing over and over again: “This has never been done before.” What you see is what you get.” “No camera tricks.” When I offered my comments on the forums, from a professional point of view, I was attacked by prepubescent gutter snipes telling me that “Criss is the best!” “I will never be like him” “I am jealous.” You know what, I am not jealous. I don’t want to ever be like Criss. I perform magic because I enjoy entertaining. I enjoy the Art of Magic. Yes, I dislike Criss enough to take a moment of my precious time to write this. His arrogant attitude, his ideological bigotry and smugness just rubs me wrong. RE: The Golden Age… That was then, this is now. Since then we have fraternities such as the A.M.A. I.B.M. and S.A M. that have a developed a Brotherhood of trust and respect amongst magicians. To disrespect another performer is out of line. (Some would say I am being hypocritical because I am “dis-ing” Criss, but he certainly is the exception since he crossed the line in a big way. |
