This is an unsolicited review.
In brief, its one of the most carefully constructed and interesting manuscripts I have read in quite some considerable time. The care and attention taken in referencing antecedents and exploring extant sources is exhaustive, making this a serious contender as a classic. # The manuscript manages to do two things. First, critically examines - in depth - the history of approaches and methods relating to this effect. The literature review is so inclusive, it's reminded me of things I had glossed over some time ago. Second, Tom makes a number of key contributions to the field by bringing new handlings, presentational nuances, and more importantly - subtleties and motivations, to the table. These new contributions are a breath of fresh air to someone like me who passes over 99.9% of the things I read. Wait till you read his thoughts on the fan force. And then imaging the preshow, television, and radio possibilities, not to mention the close up applications. I'm working on smythled too. I'm converted. As a purist myself, I'm delighted to add this to my arsenal. So, in sum, this work provides a healthy balance between the old and the new. The new is, without doubt, some of the best time I've spent reading in a long time. I told tom personally, that he should be charging at least $50 for this. Take it while you can folks. I am proud and honoured to have had a peek at this. Best, David. |

Sounds great David,
but don't exaggerate the price, it is just fine at the current price; if you want, just go ahead and give Tom the difference of the pirice you paid, and leave the price along. I already know the material is good anyway; and also there are tons of books with way more material for less then 50 bucks. |

Apologies to those who've been trying to reach me, or who have ordered A Card Merely Thought Of... and not yet received theirs.
I've been out of the country for the past 4 days. Orders are now all caught up, and a new and improved format has been sent out to everyone who has purchased the ebook. Thanks to David for his extremely kind comments. I hope you all enjoy the ebook as much as he seems to be. Cheers, - entity

I don't understand why people are so emotionally aroused by this e book.
Speaking without overuse of adjectives, this e book is an extension of Erdnase's and Dingle's take in this field, which the author included his own handling and subtlety. The manuscript primarily focused on the techniques but, in my opinion, lacked explanation in showmanship and presentation- something that is indispensable for effects such as these. The review in the manuscript is, of the same fashion, excluded the mentalistic approach of the effect and is therefore limited and perhaps even out of date (I really think it should be stated in the Ad so people won't be misled). Because of this, I'd say $35 Canadian overpriced. I mean no offence to David but you would pay $50 for it and I just don't see why. People who had no experience with such trick will have a hard time relate the manuscript to Rannie's Ultimate Think of a Card (link appeared earlier in the thread). I think if this manuscript is ever to be reedited Mr Baxter should really consider to touch upon the mentalism aspects. It would also be much practical to the readers if Mr Baxter could address how he fooled top card guys in the world in a more specific and comprehensive approach, besides demonstrating solely on techniques and reviews. |

But on the other hand, I think Mr Baxter's handling really does improve previous methods a good deal. If you perform regularly these sort of tricks it is definitely worth buying.

Ghostpianist:
I'm afraid that I must disagree with your assessment, as do others, apparently. Judging from the remarks I've received from those who have purchased this e-book, all but you were delighted, and clearly understood from the ad, the intent of the work and what they were buying. I must say that I very much resent your implication that anything in the ad is misleading. I pride myself on honesty and a lack of hype in my advertisements. You are certainly entitled to your opinion on its value. In my opinion, the work speaks for itself. It's not meant to be a treatise on how to be a performer, or a Mentalist. Those books are available from others. This is a collection of my own notes, forming a technical manuscript that deals with the Think of a Card concept. It gives history, a compilation of the most practical known techniques, the insights of myself and others, such as Vernon, Erdnase, Dingle, Berglas, Tom Bowyer, etc., and several of my own effects that I use professionally. You seem to suggest that this work was somehow constructed towards illuminating Rannie's Ultimate Think of a Card. I suspect that's where your disappointment probably lies. While I did mention recently in this forum that one of the effects in my e-book does create the same effect that Rannie recently showed in his posted video, when I wrote and released this manuscript I wasn't aware of Rannie or his way of performing the effect, and so his work was never a consideration. The effect is not mentioned in the ad, and it's something I've performed for almost 40 years. I'm not interested in detailing what Rannie does, or anyone else's unpublished material. I've only detailed what I do. I'm afraid if you're looking for Rannie's secrets, you'll have to ask Rannie. The effect that you speak of, with which I have absolutely "fooled top card guys" is detailed in full in the e-book, although my focus is upon using the techniques to entertain real audiences. If you want a blow-by blow description of each instance where I fooled such performers, sorry. That's just gossip, and that's not what this e-book is about. What I detailed in the e-book is exactly what I did, and do. If you want something you won't have to practice or think about or make your own through repeated performance, then you'll be disappointed in this e-book. Fortunately, so far, Ghostpianist, you're the only one who seems to not appreciate its value. You were apparently looking for something else. If you haven't found my book of value, let me know and I'll happily offer a refund. - entity

I found the following to be true about the e-book:
-it details a "history" of this effect very well (something I enjoyed very much) -it provides many different approaches & sources that have paved the way for this effect -it provides strong technical details on the "how" -the instructions are clear I'm not sure what else I could ask for, really. Presentation? It's "think a card"...i'm not sure what else one would need to know to work something out presentationally. That's really up to the performer. As I said before (and I'm not a top card guy but I know a thing or two), Tom performed this for a few of us one day & he is VERY good at it. It seemed just like he was reading our minds. No tell tale clues, moves, or tip offs. It was great.

I shall order my copy soon. I can't wait to learn more about this wonderful effect. I am certain....with the responses I read from top cardmen... I can't wait to learn more about this wonderful effect.
Best to you! Rannie
