I am looking into getting some help upgrading my website. I would really like it to have a more professional look and be more personal.
Does anybody know of any good companies or individuals that do this sort of thing? Thank you, |

Fred Goode of Digital Production Studios has a Web site building section: http://dpstudios.biz/web.htm and even if you don't use his service, you might go there and see his suggestions for a five page Web site to get you thinking about what you need. The problem he runs into all the time is what people THINK is a "professional look." That usually translates to glitzy look with a lot of flash, animations and sounds. His sites are quiet and to the point - which is BUSINESS. But he follows your directions and designs it YOUR way, but he will also tell you in a minute if he thinks you are heading in the wrong direction with too many unnecessary bells and whistles.
I help Fred out with maintaining Web sites, and we have a special $10 update deal for magicians if that is of interest to you.

There is a service you can subscribe to called SitePro. They will keep you informed of the major changes that affect the internet.
Here are some basic things to consider. 1) Do not put a flash presentation on your index page. Why? The searchbots often ignore pages with flash presentations on them. 2) Keep your home page simple. Don't use a lot of photos on it. Use simple, quickloading graphics. Why? People don't like to sit through long downloads. 3) Make sure all your links work. 4) Make sure everything on your site is spelled correctly. I really hate to see people who claim to escape from a "straightjacket" or "straight jacket." The word is straitjacket. 5) Don't put irrelevant information on your web site. And don't make claims that you can't back up. 6) Avoid putting presentations on your site that require special software to view. Not everyone uses Macromedia flash player. 7) Use music sparingly. The wrong music can cost you a gig.

My site was designed by me, and put together by a person who does that sort of thing. I had the basic look in mind and told him what to do. I've been looking for something that I can manage myself, add some video and what not. Does anyone have any experience with any of the sites where you can use templates and do it yourself? I have a Mac and am a bit familiar with their service, but haven't made up my mind yet.

I'd gladly give free advise if you're interested in trying to do-it-yourself, troubleshooting/upgrading your current website, or just want to gather information before hiring someone to do it for you.
I've been doing websites and graphics part time for four years and counting (frameworks, templates, graphics, programming, CMS etc...). PM any questions if you have any, I'll gladly try my best to be helpful. - - - p.s. having just checked them out, I think that the illustrative/graphic work that monster-creations.co.uk does looks great! |

Please contact me again if you remember who you are, and contacted me previously. Thanks |

Our websites - http://www.10MAX.com - load within 10-seconds at dial-up speed. If you want to test our search-engine compatibility, go to http://www.Google.com and search for "fast websites".
You probably already know of our affitilate - http://www.Magic4Us.com which offers Pictorials of magical-events, 350+ dealers and free-listing for performing-magicians. It is fast-loading and an example of our work. This past-week we re-designed and launched http://www.DannyArcher.com. Within two(2) weeks we will release the new version of http://www.LVMI.net - which, will replace the current, slow (over 4-minutes at dial-up speed) site, with one loading within 10-seconds. If you don't think speed counts and that everyone has high-speed connections, ask Danny - he is currently in Vail, Colorado. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions. Elton Kelly ....
