Not to diss Mr. Ammar's work, but no one's routine comes close to Tommy Wonder's. It is by far the most advanced cups and balls routine... both physically and mentally.
And I totoally agree that Ammar's loading is off beat. No cover whatsoever, and easily retracable. I am fond of the appearance of the third ball, but many others have adopted this idea into their routines so it's not that special. It's a solid routine, just not my personal favorite.

I agree Walter, but I think that there is a reason why you don't see very many people doing the Wonder cups routine; It’s far more advanced, demanding a much greater level of practice and skill IMO. If this really isn't the reason, why then do you think that we never see more magician's performing Wonder’s routine? Clearly it is the better, stronger effect, and I think that time wise it’s just about 30-45 seconds shorter- with stronger impact!
IMO Tommy Wonder's routine takes much more time to master. I've been doing the cups for about 4 years now. I know Ammar's, Vernon's, Elmsley's, and Gertner's routines. I've even played with Aldo’s routine, but lost interest- too much juggling and movement IMO. Then I tried working on Wonder’s, I just never could get the slights of the routine down. The main reason for this is the pom-pom's. Maybe its due to the make up of my hands, but I just can't get the moves invisible like he does. After spending a bunch of time on this, I abandoned the project. I may try this effect later, maybe with a different size cup and pompom. In the end, I made up my own routine that is different from all of the above using ideas from each routine. I got a email from a friend also, Brad Burt did have the penguin cups but in gold. He also wanted about $50 more for them. I’m curious about the gold cups, so I am sending an email to Brad to see if there is any chance of buying a set. Bill- thanks for your insight regarding the Ammar cups, if anyone would know; I figured that it would be you. MM

Please don't waste your time on the gold plated Magic Makers Cups. Gold plate wears off. The work on the Sherwood cups is completely different from what you see on these cups from China. If you want a nice set of gold colored cups, buy the Johnson cups.

Thanks for the advice Bill, I just assumed that they were both electroplated like the Sherwood cups are. I guess that I forgot what happens when one assumes.....Thanks for saving me some money that would otherwise have been wasted.

Another reason for so few people performing the Wonder routine: I think this routine is so highly personalized that performing it as he does (if that's possible) would result in something so clearly a rip-off (even if you may be legally allowed to do it) that it would not be very comfortable to perform. Wonder did not "just" rearrange otherwise well-known sequences, maybe adding some original moves. Due to his very original ending and the use to which he puts his larger pompom balls, he really changed the whole effect. On top of that he pulls it off to present his ending in a way that makes it really magical (as opposed to creating puzzlement of the 'when did he sneak these things into the cups' kind). I think people feel much more free to borrow from a well-known performer's routine when the virtue of the routine lies more in the routining than in the creation of an heterofore unseen effect. This might just show a lack of appreciation for excellent routining, or, in the case of Mr. Wonder's routine, might be due to the recognition of a singular achievement.

Yes, Tommy Wonder's routine is very personalized, and that's exactly why I love it. I have yet to see anyone else perform such a well fitted routine to their personal character. And you're right, performing Wonder's routine would just be plain wrong if not impossible. There is also a given acceptance amoung magicians, that Tommy Wonder's routine is soooo good, that only he deserves to perform it.
I just wish I thought of the concepts first.
