I'm trying to identify the manufacturer of a set of shells I purchased in the mid-70s. They're cast in pewter, are fairly heavy, have a dull finish, and have a pronounced dip in the back. As far as I can tell, there are no identifying marks on them.
They came without instruction or peas. I've still got the original box they came in--a dark blue cardboard gift-type box, with two dividers in the bottom half. Although the dip in each shell is a little larger than I'd like, they handle well, particularly with the Perfect Peas. Does anyone know who might have made these shells? |

These sound like the shells that Jerry Mentzer sold. I have a set that Jerry produced in 1977.
Does this attachment look similar? ajp Click here to view attached image. |

Thanks, Andrew. The box certainly looks identical. My shells are made of pewter and have a dull finish. Your shells appear to be shiny--are they also made of pewter?

My shells are part of a limited run of gold-plated pewter shells. To my knowledge, Jerry only did 36 of these gold-plated. Have no idea how many of the pewter ran.
The box reads black in the picture, but it is certainly the dark blue you mention. You might want to contact Jerry and ask him how many he produced (http://www.magicmethodsonline.com/). Good size shells, relatively good production values. Certainly worthy of use. Don't use my gold ones, hate to wear off the plating... Hold on to the pewter ones, you don't see them often! ajp |

Thanks again, Andrew! I did some further investigation (on the forum and elsewhere), and I'm fairly certain that you're correct.
You can bet that I'm gonna hold onto 'em! |
