Retention pass... NEVER PALM BALL ON THE WAY DOWN...
Here is a killer way to learn with NO PROPS. Hold your left hand out flat palm up. Place your right index finger on the left palm with the end of your finger just a bit away from root of left index finger. (It is your right fingernail you are going to seemingly vanish) This is critical... Your left thumb moves down and across right finger, but the fingernail is still visible. Simultaneously... pull right hand out and downward and rotate left hand over. You should NOTE a retention of the fingernail. You can vanish a thimble this way. A sponge ball, a coin. It is timing. Very little movement of any parts of your hands. NEVER READJUST to a palm without shade. Best description of a ball vanish is with original instructions of Benson Bowl. I think it is in a Bruce Elliott book. KEEP IT SIMPLE. If you can ever see a Goshman video, you will be amazed at how simple a "pass" can be. (going away for couple of weeks, when I get back you should be a master of this move).

Here's a suggestion when doing a false transfer as Ammar refers to it as. Useing misdirection, if you use the same movements of your hands when actually transfering ball from one to the other. Also don't stare at your hands when doing the move. Your audiance looks and focuses on what you look at. Look one step ahead of the move and the spectators will follow. When most people place something from one hand to the other, they know where they are going so they don't with their eyes. Watch someone sit a glass of water on the table sometime. They usually look where they are going to sit it down and then just do it without eye contact of each movement towards the table. Just make your sleights look like normal motion.

I'm currently working on the C&B routine, and I try to tell my friends what I'm working on. They always assume "oh, find the ball under one of the cups", which obviously isn't quite the same as what we're all discussing on this thread.
Is there an online demo of someone doing a c&B routine that I can show my friends what a "real cups & balls routine" is?

Indyfan: Al Schneider has a clip of his routine on his website
http://www.worldmagiccenter.com/movie.html But if you show your friends a clip, you'll ruin the "surprise" of the final loads! Practice hard so you can show them yourself!

Good point, Bob. I forgot how surprising that really is (although, even though I expect to see the final loads when I see a demo, I'm still ALWAYS thrilled to watch someone perform the routine), but your point is taken. Thanks for the link!

Go to http://www.seemagic.co.uk and search for Tim Ellis. There is a clip of him performing Runaround Sue, his FISM winning rock and roll cups and balls routine. It is by far the most creative and impressive routine I have seen.
