Got this from a friend and neighbor and thought especially as a magician you might enjoy it.
True or not, this is good. Subject: Great answer from the judge! In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no Holiday to celebrate. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and declared, 'Case dismissed!' The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, 'Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other Atheists have no such holiday!' The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, 'Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate his own atheists' holiday!' The lawyer pompously said, 'Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?' The judge said, 'Well it comes every year on exactly the same date---April 1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as 'April Fools Day,' consider that Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture, he is a fool, and April 1st is his holiday! Now have a good day and get out of my courtroom! |

Definitely not true, http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/atheist.asp
Just another callous joke at the expense of a minority We have plenty of secular holidays here in the U.S. New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving. The only religious holiday is Christmas and as you've already noted in another post, we've been pretty successful in purging that off all religious meaning. And these are just the Federally recognized holidays. The Calender is awash with secular celebrations, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Arbor Day, Groundhog Day, Valentines Day (once religious but no more, besides it's originally Roman),St. Patrick's Day (see Valentines Day sans the Roman Reference), Earth Day, Cinco de Mayo, Halloween (voluntarily abandoned by the theistic crowd as being too satanic), and Kwanzaa to name just a few On a side note April fool's Day and Easter are on equal footings as well since neither holiday is recognized as a paid day off.

Similarpercentages categorically refuse to vote for atheists for publicoffice and believe that it is impossible for them to be moral peo-ple. Courts in some states routinely discriminate against them inchild-custody battles.Yet this prejudice against atheists is unjustified, and some-times it causes real harm THE MOST UNPOPULAR Numerous polls show that hostility toward atheists is more widespread than that toward any other minority group. RecentPew surveys found that far more people have a “mostly” or“very” unfavorable view of atheists than of any other religiousor ethnic group. So what?
According to you - "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do." To me that only tells me what you anticipate would make us alike. The absolute fact is that in the history of man, if you are alive, you are also in the minority! You have failed to convince me that atheists are any more a minority than I am. Academically that is totally irrelevant to the discussion anyway. There has been no effort to affiliate or avoid affiliation. As a published graduate professor well versed in statistics the “research” offered here is a joke. Quoting you: “RecentPew surveys found that far more people have a “mostly” or“very” unfavorable view of atheists than of any other religiousor ethnic group.” Reality is that atheism qualifies as neither an ethnicity nor a religion. Nothing valid is here to be measured. This is like getting a vegetarian's opinion on which is better chicken or beef. Nobody is chasing you. Why are you running? Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
