Anyone else seen this? I saw it last night and was utterly transported. Neil Gaiman fans out there should know that he did the screenplay. The look of it is lush and fantastical, well suited to this powerful old tale. Grendel speaks Old English, which you can pretty much understand if you are good at languages.

Did you see it in 3-D? Suppose to make a huge difference. You would have liked it even more!

Here's an interesting insight from Roger Ebert:
Q: To me, "Beowulf" was one of the most thrilling movies ever. I can't believe you thought people should have been laughing at it. [A reader in] Los Angeles A. Not at it, with it. You can laugh and still be thrilled (see "Raiders of the Lost Ark"). I thought it was a send-up of itself, and asked Roger Avary, the co-writer (who also co-wrote "Pulp Fiction") if he had "a glint in his eye" as he was working on it. He responds: "A glint for sure. I still can't believe we got away with it. I feel like I just pulled off a crazy stunt." ... http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/ |

Will be seeing it this week, honestly I'm only seeing it cuase of the 3D aspect, the actual film doesn't really interest me much.
P.S - If your in the UK, Planet Terror is out next week, WATCH IT. Fauna

Anyone see the Beowulf trailer and have a flashback to a 30-or-so-year-old classic thriller?! Beowulf's "I will kill your monster" reminds me quite a bit of a mini-speech in a movie that I bet most of us have seen. I'll leave this up a bit before I give it away.

I didn't see it in 3-D, just at a multiplex. Still grand fun!
A good read, also. Yours, Paul |

Saw it last noght and really enjoyed it. Thought it was an interesting to give the tale a back story. I didn't feel that the animation added much to the overall effect. I kept thinking throughout the film that it might have been cheaper to film it live action as it would have looked pretty much the same. Perhaps it works better in 3D but since I can't see in 3D I couldn't tell you.

Saw the Digital 3D version with my son and one of my daughters... the three of us liked it very much. I thought the 3D was done just right... just enough to add to the experience but not enough to detract from the story (nor was it 3D for 3D's sake, as has been done with 3D movies in the past).

Is it all CGI? I can't tell from the previews

Yes, but as more and more CGI films do now, they make the characters look JUST like the voice actors, which is why Angelina Jolie Character is just her, with a tale.
