I learned this years ago from a blackstone book, though the instructions there used a slightly different technique to accomplish the rise. It's a great effect.

I think I learned this from a library book as a kid almost 50 years ago. Some of those old, "popular magic" books have hidden gems in them.

If the method is the one described in the "OLD AS HILLS" books, then is it right of him to sell it?

Even if it is another method, the same can be achieved by the old as hills method.
