I just wanted to let everybody know that I was surfing around on ebay, and I found a book I own called Creative Marketing For Magicians. if interested, you can find it by typing in magician marketing or 170173996226, in the ebay search box. I own this book and it has some great info. No, I am not affiliated with the author at all.

Interesting looking book. Who is the author? I can't find anything on it other than the one listing for sale on E*ay with very limited info. Even there, the author is not listed.

The author is Josh Gair out of Longwood Florida. He is in his early twenties, but has been doing great with his marketing strategies for the past 10 years. He has been performing magic shows since he was 13, these are not birthday party's but actual full blown shows. His total income is from his marketing ideas and shows. He lectured at the Daytona Magic Festival in 2006, that was when I bought his original lecture notes. I used one of his ideas right off, cost me $200 with a $2000 return in 2 weeks so that made it worth while to me.

Hope this helps a bit

Then the description on e-Bay says:

This is a marketing book written by a former professional magician. It is filled with lots of creative and no cost marketing ideas for the magician to get more money and more business, although I suppose these ideas could work for any entertainer really. The book is about 75 pages long. It also has a resources section in the back with more contacts, websites, and more to help you get started and get more money with your talents. The book was given to me, as the magician is now retired. He told me he wrote it as a reference for himself initially, but is now letting people see how he kept busy as a performer for 30 years. Good practical, real world information.

Retired in his early 20’s… COOL!

30 YEARS as a busy profession in his early twenties… even cooler! Especially since he only started when he was 13!

Now THAT is the magic I want to know! - - How’d he do that?

Hehehehehehehehe!

Dean,

I don't want to undermine your post, but I was in kind of the same situation (if this author is telling the truth) with my business. I started doing corporate shows at 15. My first one was with Sony (relax, my Dad got me the gig, he worked there) and I averaged 1 show a weekend from about 15-17 then it grew once I got out of high school to where I was working 3, 4 and at one time 5 corporate shows a week.

I got burned out at about 21 (I'm now 23) and decided to become a firefighter/paramedic. Now I'm getting bored with that, but that's another story.

My point is that even though I started young doesn't mean it didn't happen. I don't know this guy from Adam, but if the material is great and it works, then he can claim anything he wants.

I think a big part of my success at a young age was my ability to prove everyone wrong (especially my Dad who always said I'd never amount to anything) and also looking like I was a few years older than I actually was helped too.

You are absolutely right, something is amiss, and it is probably me. I saw Josh at the Daytona Convention last year and bought his lecture notes on Marketing, I thought these were the same notes I guess I miss read the add. When I saw his log on and the marketing add I thought it was his notes...

Sorry about that.

Hey Chris, buddy!

No big deal... NOT pointing any fingers or anything just thought it was funny! - - Got a laugh! That's all.

Josh, Brother,

Really, no problemo! hey, I have been being paid to performed since I was "5", and working malls and real company events since I was 10!! Heck, I had my own theme park show (which I wrote, produced and SOLD) when I was 12 and was full time, living on my own by the time I was 16, (Casinos Included… Never really did kids shows though.) so I UNDERSTAND how easy it is to get and be there... again, it was just a funny juxt-o-positinn between the two different ads I found funny... just a laugh, that’s all.

Everything is just fine.

I am at your service and In HIS Service,
Deano (loves to laugh) in Reno
