I can make if it (of course) it's LA. I live there. (Can't go very far anymore because of my 2 year old.) Kozmo is out here right now working.

You know... even a simple inquiry has shown me that this undertaking would be too tough for me to organize at the current time. Bummer. Still I'll keep in in mind for the future and if anyone else wants to take up the reigns and do it- I'll help out all I can- I'd love to see something like this happen....

By doing in Hollywood, you go to the Castle and the Magic Catler hotel, low priced, and just down the street Hollywood blvd. where I believe you can work the street w/out permit.

Chris Capehart told me he killed there and got great hats (made more money in 2 hour a day than he got paid at the Castle.

I just got back on the streets after a 14 year break. I'd be very interested in attending. Do you need any help? What kind of activities are you thinking of including? Will there be opportunities for busking?

Venice Beach update. I worked Venice Beach on Sunday. The current state of affairs is that anarchy has returned and is in full bloom. The system the city tried to install has fallen apart. No one obyed it and there is a legal injunction currently in effect so you can once again work anywhere you want. It was pretty good because of the tourists currently.

This sounds like a great idea. Maybe some of us angelenos can put our heads together on this. Work on timing it when people are in town that we would like to be there. There are some great busking areas. Gaddy, stay involved if you can

When the gang I've been workin with go to L.A. we usually go to venice, there's no read tape you can just work although a bunch of guys have complained it's too much like a circus...

I dunno I'm up for anything, I hope we do this it would be fun.

If you want to sleep in your van I know the spots by venice and if you want a cheap hotel I know some by venice.

I've done both with success.

Kozmo could work a empty phone booth, draw a crowd and make a bunch of money...

And don't you just love it when somebody says you can't make money here or there, and you fill your hats?

Just goes to show that busking is a personal art. What works for one, in one place, may not work for anyone else, anywhere else.

But a busking festival in a place where you can actually meet others, talk the art, and then show off a bit, sounds good to me too.

I was previously making too much money at my day job to busk full time, and so weekednds and vacactions were all I could manage. Now I have no full time job, due to illness that stops me from doing my job, but not from busking so I am looking forward to getting even more serious on the streets.

I have learned from watching Gazzo, Cellini, Chris Capehart, and the famous Kozmo perform live, and also on tapes and dvds.. My act is a bit of this and some of that, and more of something else. But as much as I know, I know I can learn even more, and the best teachers are those who have done it, and the audiences themselves.

Let's don't let the west coast buskers festival idea die...

yea I'm allergic to work too Smile

my favorit excuse ever was I heard a guy say "I'm a genius so I'm psychologically unfit for normal work"

I'm just kidding, please don't get offended.

I'm jealous because I live on the east coast.. But hey have fun guys.. Smile I'm sure it'll turn out great

I'd probably make it. I would have to have about a months lead time so I could work my way across country. Yeah, I know that would only take a couple of weeks but I'd build in some jail time for those towns that have rules against busking (and of course I'd be ignorant of the laws! LOL!!)

Is anyone working on this though? Gaddy threw it out there and then backed off it seemed.

(Don't blame ya in the least though bud...it would be a daunting task to be sure)

Is there a person or committee steering this ship?!?!?

I have heard a rumor that there is going to be a busking "theater" set up somewhere while the LVMI is going on. You can sit and watch as long as you're also planning on performing in the theater. If you're not performing, apparently, it will cost you a bundle.

Actually, what I'm going to do is this:

There seem to be a lot of (mostly younger) magicians in SF that "want" to street perform but have not, as of yet.

So I'm going to organize a small "busk-in" in one of the neighborhood parks that has a large "weekend brunch" crowd. I've done very, Very well there in the past, and it's WAY under the radar of other street performers. Besides some folks playing guitars there I've never seen anyone else there- and they weren't even busking, really.

It's essentially going to be a teach-in with some hands on practice space...

Date and more details to come.
