The effect is called "The Ultimate Newspaper Prediction" I am thinking it is a Max Maven thing.. but also found reference to David Berglass on it.
Effect: Magi takes sheet of newspaper and tears it. Spectator chooses lefthand or right hand. Magi then tears that sheet.. again spectator chooses left or right hand.. This goes on until there is a small piece in the magi's hand.. In which the spectator then take sit.. and chooses a word from it.. Of course or Magi Hero has predicted the word choosen by the spectator. Any help.. at whre I can find this effect.. greatly appreciated

Sounds a bit like Koran's Newspaper Prediction...Koran's is a bit different. He had the spectator name a number, won't give it all away. Check L&L's Osterlind set, Easy To Master Mental Miracles...

Tim Conover performs the effect that you describe. I don't know the origin, but it is a fooler!

Barrie Richardson has a very clever version in his book Theater of the Mind. Sneaky method, use any (even a borrowed) newspaper!

Singular is "Magus".
Take a look at Headline Hunter by Maurice Fogel. Rory

I agree with Rory. Sounds identical to Maurice Fogel's "Headline Hunter." I bought this effect way back in the 60s from Harry Stanley's Unique Magic Studio. Excellent effect.
PM me if I can help. Lester |

The book Maurice Fogel In Search of the Sensational has the headline hunter routine explained, does sound as you described.
