What would be a good way to start learning Hypno? Books? DVD? Thank you in advance. I just want to see what the majority of you think.

There is no "best way" to learn. Like any other craft or art, there are many ways to learn. Different people have different learning styles. Some learn from texts, others video and others do well in class as others study with individual mentors. I think any serious student will eventually use all modalities of learning. Learning is also not a 'one-time" experience. Its not like anyone really reads a book, then starts doing Vegas shows the next week. Here are some suggestions that have been given throught this forum:
BOOKS: Trancework By Michael Yapko Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnosis by Ormand McGill Little Black Book of Stage Hypnosis Secrets by Michael Johns and Richard Nongard All of these books are at Amazon.com DVD's Here is a link to the various hypnosis training DVD's carried by Murphys. You can get any of these from any magic dealer: http://www.murphysmagic.com/Multi-Langua......osis+dvd LIVE CLASSES: We offer classes in Las Vegas, and also promote Tommy Vee and Jerry Valley's training in Las Vegas. Jerry is a historical figure in stage hypnosis, and his son Tommy is a GREAT entertainer. Michal Johns and I offer classes that follow a model similar to the "Master Class" offered by Eugene Burger and Jeff McBride (although not affiliated with them). I think in the year 2007, DVD's have become the new textbook. It would be my starting point if I were learning today. I also think a clinical hypnosis training seminar is a must have for the stage hypnotist becasue it gives them a good understanding of the depth of hypnosis. I hope others add recomendations for books and DVDs...

I have become much, much more open minded about hypnosis than I ever was. I am from a church background, and I have been repeatedly told that Christians should never, NEVER allow themselves to be hypnotized, blah, blah, blah. the reasons? Well, your mind is your own and should never be under the control of another person, who could conceivably put bad suggestions in your mind, etc., and the reasons go on and on.
Well, I kept that in my mind for a long time, out of mostly fear, I suppose. But recently, I just decided to say to heck with all that, put my fear on the back shelf, and find out the truth for myself! Well, I have been doing so much Googling on this that my fingers are sore. My conclusion? It can be used for evil OR good! I found a man on the internet who opened my mind up tremendously. What was my motivation? Well, recently, my girlfriend and I broke up. The fact is she had deep issues because in a previous relationship she had been beaten nearly to death. She has had a very unnatural aversion to intimacy...even something so simple as holding hands. (Let alone kissing and beyond.) Well, after we broke up, looking back in retrospect, I thought, if I really love her, then surely there should have been a way I could have helped her overcome those issues. Surely, I thought, if I could change her thinking on those issues, she could overcome them. Even MORE painful is the thought that if I had known how to do this, she would still be with me today. That one REALLY hurts. What was the first thing to come to mind? You bet. Hypnosis. Well, it's too late, because we are broke up now, but if I ever get into a situation like that again, (Or if we miraculously get back together) I am determined to be the guy with the answers and the ability to HELP. In short, I hate to stand by helplessly while I watch someone I love suffer needlessly when the answer is in my voice.. I am beginning to see so MUCH potential for good in having the ability to hypnotize. I am determined to learn now.

I suppose another thing I did not mention is that I can thing of a hundred positive changes I could make in MYSELF if I could only bypass my stubborn concsious mind.....

My undergrad degree is in Ministry, and Jerry Falwell signed my Masters degree. Trance is a central part of all religion. You are correct, hypnosis is neither good nor evil. It is just a natural phenomena like sweating, sleeping or tasting. I find it VERY funny that a religious person is afraid of "hypnosis" and then the same person attends a church with a 2o minute "alter call" or "healing service" that is really a masterful exmaple of stage hypnosis. I have a friend who is a massage therapist, but she says her religion forbids hypnosis (she is a JW). I have had a massage from her, nothing more effective for induction that a professional massage.
Many of these "religious" ideas are simply misunderstandings and ignorance of what hypnosis actually is. Richard

And that misunderstanding and ignorance is abundant. Very recently, my spiritual mentor told me (Exact quote:)"You do not yet understand how the spiritual world works........ Did you know that modern day hypnotism is what the Bible calls enchantment? And there is a specific curse attached to each of these things in the Bible?"
In other words, the implication is that if I wish him to remain my mentor, I am going to have to renounce hypnotism as well as magic. Well, I'm just on the fringe of delving into hyposis, but ironicly, that very comment is what spurred me to GOOGLE hypnosis to start with. (The old boomerang effect!) And I have come to my decision. I want to learn. Honestly, the more I consider it, the more potential for good I see in hypnosis. I see all kind of potential for effecting permanent change in myself and others. I see possibilities for helping myself and my loved ones in ways not yet imagined. At the risk of sounding trite, the sky seems to be the limit.

"All power is neither good or bad, it's how you use it."
Can't remember the name of the man who wrote that but it seems appropriate at this time.
