Okay. . . I have too much to get focused.

I've got:

A bunch of notes from Bro. Kotah on Jack the Ripper
From Hell v3
Higley's Ripper Set
Ghost in the Machine (in mid-construction, along with a flea circus, my own version of the growing mango, and some other non-magic stuff, and. . . .)
Several Ripper effects from Docc, Anabelle, Doc Shiels, etc.
a shelf full of Jack books (fiction and non)

And for the life of me I feel totally blocked!!! I know I should start with one thing and build from there but I can't seem to do it. Someone PLEASE just tell me what to do!!!!!! I THINK I was going for a Ripper seance but it's gotten lost somewhere in my brain.

Hey Raven - know the feeling!
I've been playing with the idea that the victims are the 'stars' - everyone 'celebrates' Jack, but they are left behind - indeed even 'blamed' for being prostitutes. I explain that each of the 5 want to influence us - I begin with Mary Kelly, the angriest, and do Doug's Ripper set, with the letter beginning "If the Spirit of Mary Kelly is influencing us then you...".
That way you can then mesh 5 effects as proof each of the 5 victims are 'present'.
And why are they here, trying to influence us? What are they trying to tell us?
Jack was a cop? 'Jack' was a team of coppers? Sure they were ladies of the night, but just trying to scrape a living together, and instead killed by violent men within the law...

It's kind of like an early, dark 'Girl Power' - but not as dark as the "Spice Girls" reforming...

Hey Mark...

You must also get the Book of Ascension - Ripper Version (LC)

Homicide Series UK (Outlaw)

Dear Boss / From Hell letter with bloody handprint

Docc Hilford's Band of the Hand....

Then you will have more of the Jigsaw pieces in place....

Yuk yuk

When in doubt, go with the immortal sorcerer who sacrifices humans for the dark boons of the Elder gods for a premise... IMHO

Mr. Raven, nevermore…

Just because our minds keep working (heck, even when we sleep)
does not mean we have to keep up with them and over think or work.

Sometimes I just let ideas wait, and wait, and wait, until
they pop out of my head and onto the stage in their own good time.

If I beat myself up, nothing of worth comes out creatively.
If I let things just “be” miraculous stuff ends up being born.

The pros of the old days had mastered maybe a dozen,
carefully chosen and prepared pieces, and built reputations.

Today we want to climb the heights and conquer magic,
maybe we try to do too much too quickly?

As the Beatles wisely sang: “Let it be, let it be”
Enjoy whatever holidays you honor up through New Years.

Then, get to work or we’ll set the daemons on you!

Magically,
Walt

I was thinking something along the same lines Mark. I'm waiting on From Hell 3 to arrive, and have Higley's Eye of the Ripper. I have an old, strange looking box to house them all in, and I have the "artifacts" wrapped in a genuine London Sun newspaper from 1888 (purchased on ebay, 4 for $20). I'm in the same boat, trying to find a few more effects, and a way to weave the story together.

Thanks for the ideas Dr Spektor, I will have to have a look at those effects and ideas.

Mark,
Seems like the only Jack missing from your collection is Mr. Daniels. Maybe he can stir up some creative juices.

Yes, I'm on a classic Trek kick lately - not sure why... but check these out for some inspiration...

Ancient Cthulhu-like Evil... a murder mystery... a seance... a battle for survival... banishing the evil entity.... the stuff of an entire Jack act.

Mentalism, bizarre magick, theatre galore.

Oh, and pretty women dancing around...

Of course, this episode was written by Robert Bloch... and Cthulhoid Jack appears Smile

I like your thinking Steve. The victims instead of Jack! What if they tried to tell you who or what Jack was through the use of a little brass ring that came with Incorruptable?

Yeah - the revealed word in a bible could be "devil" or "Satan" or "evil" or "azazel".... (if you are going for the ancient evil angle)...hmmm.. you could also make Jack "Judas".... if you saw that updated Dracula 2000 - the premise is that Dracula was actually Judas... cursed to wander forever cursed.

Scott,
Do your papers have any references to ole Jack by chance?

The word(s) could also come from the newspapers instead of books. There are some over on the 'bay now. 4 for $20. Just another way to use the newspapers.

Matter of fact, they have a ton of newspapers at one source. Ripper, Titanic, Hindenburg, Goldrush, Chicago Fire......tons of stories could flow with a nice rare newspaper. Good idea Scott.

Mark (and everyone) - If you haven't already, you must read "From Hell" (graphic novel) by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell for further inspiration. Wonderul work of art, even references aspects of "Sanctum".

I'm a huge Alan Moore fan. Loved, "From Hell"! I even liked the movie. . . I may be alone in that, however.

From Hell (Alan Moore) is great - although I think he lifted a lot from that great film "Murder by Decree"

Someone erased my posts on the Star Trek ideas of the Redjac concept (weird moderators) ... weird... it was meant for real! THE WOLF IN THE FOLD episode shows how you can do the immortal entity shtick - tie in dancing girls, a murder mystery, a seance, and a banishing of the ancient evil.

HMmm... I'd post clips of From Hell, Murder by Decree and WOLF IN THE FOLD except maybe it might get erased!!!!

Oh yeah, check out the NIGHT STRANGLER Kolchak film - not the Ripper - but as I posted elsewhere - it was going to be but Matheson switched it for his friend Bloch's unease.... an immortal alchemist ripping into women every couple of decades to keep the ol' Elixir of Life brewing...

To the moderators... please do not erase this or at least PM me why you do...

But here are clips of some really nice Jack the Ripper films and TV concepts - in keeping in the spirit of Mark's query...

Murder by Decree (I loved this film as a kid!)

Time after Time (A time travelling Jack "90 years ago I was a freak - today I am an amateur")

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnT-9-EWDxQ

Kolchak: the Night Stalker premise... first episode was on The Ripper (but not as good as Night Strangler... can't find any good clips Smile)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry5WI-B_Zvk

Wolf in the Fold (I loved this one too):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBOYdZXvi5k

A Documentary:

A Song (Nick Cave):

Something strange:

Jackie the Ripper:

Something else (a lot lifted from FROM HELL film):

And the Michael Caine version...

Mary Kelly's Ghost...

And then there is the Jack the Ripper / Hyde thing... with Julia Roberts (ugh)..

Agreed Tone; in fact Moore's footnotes and references at the end are simply priceless, and the plot is a good twist on the standard 'psycho-killer' line.

If you haven't read the graphic novel, go see the movie - it's actually not bad.
Then read the book, and despair at how good the movies COULD HAVE been if only they'd taken on it's mood and complexity.

The actual graphic novel is a gazillion times better than the movie - as there is actual bizarre magick afoot as Jack is performing an actual mystic ritual to usher in the 20th century - to his horror too in the end... as he realizes the 20th century is pretty horrific...

I need to drag this out.

I was considering Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the other day and the evidence of the burnt set of womens clothing at Mary Kelly's flat. Doyle suspected a lace apron rather than leather.

A Jill perhaps not Jack. A midwife with anatomy knowledge.

So when sorting through the various faces of the ladies contained in "From Hell V3", I like to remember that one of these ladies MIGHT be the Ripper herself.

Can you find her? Or at least narrow the suspects down?
