Lately, I have been learning a ton of blind shuffles, cuts etc. My problem is, I have been having a slight problem with dealing seconds. I read in the foreward of Erdnase that there is a better method to doing this called Striking Seconds. I was also looking for a way to improve my bottom deal, but I have found a lot of information here through search, so I'll see if that helps.
What is the best source for learning this move? I imagine that its published in a million places, but I figured I would try and get some opinion on the better sources from which to learn it. Any help would be great. Best, Allen

Sources to learn 2nd deal, here you go.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=2 BTW I believe it is commonly called "strike second" rather than "striking second" For strike 2nds you can do it just the same as Erdnase's push off; but instead of sliding the second card with the RH thumb, keep it in place and use RH thumb to take the 2nd card. |

Not to mention the "No Strike Theory Second" of Marlo! I don't think it would be right for me to say here why it's called that, but it's well worth looking up. It's in his RCT and also a video of archival footage of his. Also, a modification of the NSTS that I have found rather nice is in volume 3 of Steve Draun's Standing Room Only DVDs.
Steve Draun's version is quite different from the original Marlo version, and I think it is personal preference as to which you might like better - I prefer Steve's version, which he demo'd at a local club meeting I went to a few months ago.

I believe that Richard Turner is probably the greatest living exponent of the second deal. Checking his DVDs might be a good idea.

Simon Lovell's is a push-off also. I would put the time into a good push-off, personally.

Marlo's is great, once you've got it down it looks beautiful, or rather it doesn't look like anything. The only problem you could run into is compensating with a mechanic's grip but if you have it down it shouldn't be an issue. The beauty of Marlo's second (or really any suitable second I suppose) is that as long as you deal the same way (motion wise and in regards to finger placement) normally as you do when you pull seconds, it's as close to undetectable as you can get.
I might be talking out of my arse, but why change now right? Thanks guys

There have been many magicians and gamblers that learned to do a virtually imperceptible second. I well recall, as a very young magician seeing an 8 mm movie of John Scarne doing gambling moves. Like many others, he would do a demonstration second with the top card of the deck face up. It was unbelievable to me at the time that anyone could be so skilled.

I too think Steve Draun has a great second deal. It is taught in his lecture notes as well as his newest dvd release. His great addition is the way he grips the deck. It makes the second much easier in my opinion than a double push off.
