I'm doing three hours of walkaround club juggling on the street at a local first night celebration. I hope the weather is kind to me. I'm working fron 9:00 pm to 12:00 mid night and I will do flaming torches for the last half hour.

Not this year. Decided to take the time off over both Xmas and New Years.

Good luck with the gig though Al, I'm sure you'll have a blast Smile

I just got a great gig at a private residence. I was told to "make it raunchy". Should be fun.

Raunchy is not what I will be shooting for. No I will be posing for pictures with families. The forcast is 32 degrees, and the possibility of rain. Sounds perfect for juggling lit torches in the middle of the street wearing my new purlpe pimp outfit.

Nice you are a pimp. I've always felt that way.

Raunchy is not my act but for that night it will be. Ill have a good time I'm sure. I always do! Do you need any permitting for the fire in your area? I don't even bother with it here its so restricted.

Ok,
I'll bite. I was actually planning on taking this New Years Eve off, for a change.
Having been a veteran of First Night Celebrations all over the Eastern coast for at least 18 years... boy, remember back in the late 80's and early 90's when there were 1st Nights everywhere? One year we actually had Mobile AL and Columbia SC bidding against one another for us. Those sure have cooled off a lot since then. We used to make some serious large dollars at some of the bigger ones. In other words... I always worked on New Years ... no matter what. However, now that I've become older and a family man, I've actually taken a couple of New Years Eves off ... and enjoyed it.
Well, I got a last minute call this year (4 weeks out, which is very last minute in my mind) for an event here in Charlotte that I could not resist. It's a pretty chi -chi event ($250 a couple) at a historic old Vaudeville House that is in a state of re-construction. It's in a serious rough, kind of industrial, sort of state currently, but lots of the elements that make old theaters cool, are still in place. Not to mention all of the old ghosts of show biz past. These people had this whole "Cirque" theme planned out, included it in the marketing and all they had booked was a band. I never understand how some people operate like this. Well, being the impressario that I am (and never wanting to miss out on an opportunity to take advantage of "someone being over a barrel") I immediately made a few calls to some associates, put together a proposal to hire and direct a whole cast of talent for the event. Naturally, I charged them "Premium" rates due to it being a holiday and due to the fact that it was so last minute. Heck, so what if they didn't bite, I was already planning on not working. Well, go figure...they bit.
So now, not only am I working on New Years, but I getting to play in an old Vaudeville Theater with fire and LED props, and I have also been able spread some of the wealth around by hiring/including 6 of my other performer friends and associates in a cast that I have put together. Can't wait... it's gonna be a fun one.
Happy New Years Folks...

Well I had to take this years eve off for once.
I fly down Monday to rejoin the Red unit in Orlando.
So that night I will be in O-Town looking to Party!
(or maybe I drive over to Tampa!!)

I think I have just done my last out door New Years eve performance, although I made lots of money I have a terrible head cold that reminded me that old men should not be doing that kind of work. Next year I will be looking for a theater frist night celebration.

I know where you're coming from Al. I've a fire gig tomorrow with the forecaster promising snow. Fortunately I have very few outdoor gigs in the winter but after performing twice in the rain and once when it was bitterly cold I'm convinced it is now a young man's game. Anyway the indoor work tends to pay better.

New Year's Eve job finished 22:00, home at 01:00, all my family fast asleep. Who wants to celebrate the New Year anyway?
I knew a man who kept saying "pliers, pincers, scissors". He was speaking in tongs.

Here are a few video highlights from the party that I ended up booking the entertainment for. It was a blast, to say the least... Happy New Year Everyone.

Made the Sunday paper from this gig too. Eating a little fire and impressing the ladies...
