Wow, it's nice to see how you are thinking.
I'm not familiar with Shroedinger's Cat but will do a search to find out. Thanks for the feedback. |

Quantum theorist Erwin Schroedinger postulated a cat in a box along with a container of poisonous gas (as I remember) triggered by a quantum random event that either happens or does not happen. According to one interpretation of quantum mechanics, the cat in the box is both alive and dead until an observer opens the box to see the condition of the cat. The outcome of the observation depends on the collapse of the wave function of the quantum event in question. The point is, nothing "really" happens until the observation of the outcome collapses the wave function. Or something like that.

Exactly Bill! (Or sort of exactly, until I opened this thread and read your post... your comments may have existed or not on the subject)
Or as Shroedie says "Mreow Row!"

Doc, I can't be sure I read your response until I go back and re-read the thread.
Now, did I answer you or not? Bill

I havn't yet written a script for the routine, but I do have an idea. It was inspired by the Curator's recent set of photos of a ritual sword.
some might consider it bit over the top, but if handled properly, it could be very strong for many audiences. You could use the box as a prison for a demon, and bind him within. A ritual weapon would be used rather than a wand. The cloth could have strange writing on it. One must script it so there is a history to the event, and then they must accomplish the task of binding to accomplish an end, and finish something started a long time ago. Include the audience somehow. There must be a motivation to having observers present while you do this. It could be as simple as wanting witnesses for the event and thinking that your audience would serve that end well. Perhaps you need a certain number of people to help, and the fact that they paid to attend could communicate a necissary desire to be present. This could be combined with other effects as well.
Beware of this and that.

I like all the ideas I read here, particularly Schroedinger's Cat, and Philemon's hellraiser idea.
But how do you get the chains to "play along" nicely? That's got to be difficult! Maybe chains encased in a plastic sheath, sort of like bicycle lock chains? (That takes the fun out though). Having just gotten more familiar with this effect myself, I might work on something for this too; if I succeed in coming up with anything worthwhile (that's a crapshoot!) I'll let you know, Harm. To me, one of the biggest challenges is redefining the box as something to be found in the typical home or office, perhaps.. something that is not obviously a gimmick - although in truth, of course,, the box really isn't gimmicked, people might assume it is. If you forego the part with the ring, the box could be examined out the wazoo. But still, I'd rather be able to have spectators identify with it in some way - I'm OCD when it comes to that. Most of the routines submitted so far have satisfied that point, I think.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

I Got to see his presentation as part of the shoot which took place at his home. Marc had a Dean's box custom made with wood gathered from a local Philadelphia Hanted establishment called the General Wayne Inn (they have knocked it down). Im not 100% sure if this piece will be on the DVD's but I can't wait to check it out. There was one sequence with silks untieing themselves that really fooled me and the whole presentation was great.
