How did his fire-eating cause him to need the false teeth, did he say? was it the particular fuel he used or the years of doing it? It's the first instance I've heard of such a thing so I'm curious.

The heat of retaining flames in the mouth and holding a lit torch wick between your teeth can cause the enamel to crack. Do it enough and your teeth pretty much disintigrate.
It is actually a pretty common thing. Gwyd |

Corn starch (or meal) when aerated is HIGHLY flammable. Old corn grist mills used only wooden hand tools because with all the corn dust in the air, they couldn't risk metal scraping on the grinding stones and causing a spark. A single spark can (and did from time to time) level the mill building. There's an old science experiment where you take a candle, cover it with a ten can, and blow corn starch into the enclosed space with a (long) length of rubber tubing. You can easily shoot the can 20 or 30 ft into the air. Flame is dangerous. Always.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.

Mephisto has a step by step site that isn't bad, and you have to be somewhat dedicated to get through it. It was a really useful resource when I learned 15 years ago. http://www.fyretr.com
I've yet to find a book, site or video that's complete or good on it's own, and Swami/Mantra is truly frightening, though I can think of worse. So in addition to finding a pro, do your research. I was told once by a producer that fire eaters are a dime a dozen. They are, at least a basic eater to get you started. As for the corn starch, it isn't flammable, it's explosive. Outside of putting it in your mouth being just disgusting, getting it to particulate well with an aspirator is very difficult and when it does, you can bet you'll lose all of your hair in a flash. Gwyd, the up the nose stench is very bad, but all it takes is a good mental floss to clear it out. No problems. The ashes from singed eyelashes is a personal favorite. ~Pele

I love Brian Brushwoods work and am a big fan. When I learnt fire eating I learned ALOT from his book and video and from him himself. Of course I took my first steps infront of real people though! His stuff is very detailed though and done a good job. I've been in contact with Brian ever since and he even taught me the human block head. Great guy!

Hey everyone, BTW while we're on topic, once you learn the proper method for fire eating, buy one of my torches. They are amazing in their own right and have a "patented" wick tip that has to be seen to be believed! Todd Robbins recently bought a few, I think he likes them. Check out http://greatnippulini.com/sideshow.html and scroll to the bottom to see the torches. TGN

Thanks Daz. I am always trying to make new and exciting things. Not shown on the site yet is a 3 torch set that assembles into the shape of a goats head. Another more racy set I made was an interlocking set of two torches that were, *ahem* anatomiaclly correct if you get my meaning.
