I want to learn how to Contact juggle. I have browsed the internet and found a few site to teach me the basics. I.e Butterfly, back to back transfer, palm transfer, as well as more basic excersizes to get confortable with the ball. No I haven't invested in an acrylic yet, I'm using my sons ball that feels right to me. and is the right size according to the web pages (about 3 inches diam).
So any tips for the absolute beginner? |

A larger ball is easier to controle, so you may have more success if you start practicing with something larger.
An acrylic ball is easy to scratch so start your acrylic ball practicing over your bed.

Thanks Al.
That is what I need tips from experience. Although I thought more would post. It is quite fun. With a larger ball (about 5in Diam) I can control better but will that help with the smaller ball? |

I'm sure there will be advise from wiser jugglers than me to come. I started with a 4" ball, and just like all other juggling skills it is not the length of time that you practice that mattere, but the consistency, so do it every day and measure your progress on a weekly basis.

Hi Smithpaul60,
Here're a couple of links which was useful when I started learning the art of palmspining : International community : contactjuggling.org. Tons of useful tips, vids, techniques and discussions... A blog with plenty of videos... Here's a free e-book where you can learn the basis... A book by Drew Batchelor covering basis and advanced techniques for multiball manipulations... A DVD with some very good performers... Here are my videos : 1-ball moves... 4-ball moves... Hope this help, Best wishes, |

Alomst all the manipulations I do is with a 2.75 inch. Many jugglers tell me they wish they learned single ball work with the same size they do multiball. I should be using 3inchers though but I have bad wrists.
The place to start is http://www.contactjuggling.org If you want commercially produced videos I suggest the real work My friend Greg Maldonado has a nice learning series I will suggest... http://www.gregmaldonado.com/ The lovely folks at Try Out Toys has some nice resources too. http://www.tryouttoys.com/ The ministry of manipulation is considered to be among the best. http://www.ministryofmanipulation.com/ But now with You Tube you can find all the inspiration you need. Thanks guys
really, you have givin me a lot to practice with. I have been to contactjuggling.com and am working on the first lesson until it get it down smooth. I think I perfer the single ball stuff. I like the illusion of floating. It is almost Zombie-like. Hopefully once I get good enough I'll be able to combine the two. Imaging CJ with the illusion that it is floating and then BAM it starts acutally floating. AH.... one day. Thanks again, mucho. Paul |

I have combined the 2 before. For the SAM competition here in Austin I had a routine.
