Cemeteries are fascinating places: Repositories of culture and remembrance, they hold an appeal that is sociological, architectural, historical, and of course, sentimental. Many mistake this appeal as macabre or morbid, an unfortunate miscategorisation that overlooks the art and anthropology of cemeteries.

There are some great cemeteries here in Virgina. One in Richmond (Hollywood Cemetery) with all kinds of Revolutionary, Colonial, and Civiil War stones. One of my favorite places for a picnic.

New Orleans cemetaries are interesting, also. People are buried above ground.
