No, it is not a charity to support Jack the Rippers...

But, we are doing a project at the Spooky thread and I wanted the proceeds to go to a charity for helping women of who have experienced violence.

If anyone here is interested in helping out (i.e. has a dark magic streak)... please read here....

Thanks!

Hmmm... are you telling me there are no female bizarre magicians out there ready to take up the bloody pen and compose a dark saga.... or even an essay on "Jack the Ripper performances are Sick, period"....

Honestly, I was hoping to get a female contribution for such a project... oh well... I tried...

(Randirain... I was really surprised a Master of the Dark Arts like yourself wouldn't maybe write up "The Cursed Ring of Redjac"..... or the 5 Impalations of Whitechapel... hmmm... that last one got me thinking....)

C'mon!

Hi
Actually I've found that the audiences are more 'appalled' when I perform some blood and knife tricks. So I stopped.
However, you have an idea that might appeal to a younger audience. My performances are to Vetrans and Children's homes that we do for S.A.M..
Not sure who would want to see this.
You do have a cool idea though. I'm 52 so have to be careful with the costume.
The one attached is from last years (2007) Evilween party I was at. It's clean.
But still, where do you perform that type of magic?
Thanks for the ideas though.

52 is a great # is magic... so say the cards!

You have to come hang out on the Spooky Forum... you'll find out about where when and how to present bizarre magick!

From intimite seances summoning redjac... to a stage show with a killer walking stick attacking the magician posssessed by Jack... to light card effects... to mysterious images appearing in mirrors...

In short - everywhere! It all depends how you spin it. Most of the material is for adults... but I can see a lot of the methods and effects are easily lifted and converted into other magic... the key here is that the presentation creates a lot of the effect...

for example, one I am submitting is a variation on the ol' Bermuda triangle math effect with a sealed revelation - nothing earth shattering - but its the presentation, script, mood that is interesting...

Oh - audiences that like this - young adults 16-24 love this stuff.... that I can say from personal experience... but really... it depends on the message / objective of the routine... showing the inhumanity of a serial killer doesn't require blood and guts...

I'll tell you my 3 effects that will be in the book have no blood...it is all psychological horror and dark mentalism.

Its OK to remind people Jack might have been around over 100 years ago - but his evil is still present in the form of terrible humans of today... what should we do about it as a society? Suddenly, Jack the Ripper themes can be used to advocate... fear is a powerful emotion... but it requires skill and great facillitation to use properly with audiences....

Interesting...perhaps. I haven't had time to read the thread yet, but I'll try to do this later today. Two interests of mine...well, 3 if you add in the charity factor--I was a trained peer counselor for a battered women's shelter for some time.

What I would love to have is perhaps some female perspective on Jack the Ripper...

I must say, when I told my wife and some other female friends... they thought "WHY would you associate your name with such a thing?!?! Jack is Evil!!!"...

And I explained:

This book will be framed and explained right from the beginning that:

1) Nothing in it will agrandize violence or Jack

2) That the effects and material in it are to be used or reflected on to understand that such sickness did exist and STILL DOES... and that society itself has some major issues promoting via media and hype violence (including serial killers and school shooters etc)... Jack was the first Media "star" killer... and he was never caught. He and the things associated with him are not just terror - they are aspects of real things in life.

3) I'll be framing any submissions with some psychological uses for education and meaning - as well as writing a section that some magic should not be used... i.e. magic has for a long time been equated with dexterity tricks etc... when in fact, magic skills have the dangerous potential to really shatter people. The effects in this book and the essays to go with it will explain that when using such heavy topics - one doesn't want to become a traumatizer onself!

4) I'm an educator, deep down... and there is something about Jack that has stuck in history and popular culture because the mystery represents something we as people still struggle with - such as our own role in society and what should we be doing when we see insane games like GRAND THEFT AUTO emulating acts similar to Jack the Ripper? Putting our heads in the sand won't help...

5) In the end, this is a unique and innovative magic project - I hope with the above guidelines, some here might want to contribute something... because really, I would prefer not to have the book be written by the "boys" only - that sort of defeats its purpose! However, if it ends up that way, I guess I'll write a small peice on why that might have happened - and I hope it doesn't Smile

Really, check out the thread - some major storyteller, mentalist and bizarre magicians are all contributing pieces. However, it doesn't matter who you are - it matters on the material submitted!

OK, my shpiel is over!

Well, I've got submissions from many magi - none female Smile.... but I have Ron Dayton, Jim Magus, Doc Sheils, Doc Hilford, Larry White, Mark Edwards, Ed Solomon.... well a heck of good fellows....

However, as Doc Sheils said to me "Hey... too many men... you need some women contributors... or to balance things out... just saw the men in half."

Seriously, I'd hate this to be a guys only thing... but worst comes to worst, I'll write a smal piece on the dilemma of trying to get a woman magician to contribute anything to this project - which I surmise is pretty darn dark (and a lot of men didn't want to be involved either BTW)....

The money is going to women victims of violence charity....

Oh well.

Maybe some other charity project in the future... non-Jack'd.

One good charity is the Tempura House which is a shelter for lightly battered women.

Hey Ms. Morgan - part of the book addresses the fact that such "humour" is part of the problems in the world...

I have 2 little daughters, and boy, I am planning to help them be empowered little fighters for their rights. As a psychiatrist, I hear the most horrible things done to women just because they are women.

It is sickening.

It is interesting to note that some believe Jack the Ripper was a woman. As recently as 2006 DNA work-ups support the possibility.
Imagine fooling the whole world, for over 100 years, into thinking your a man.
Now, that's a trick!
