Hello,
I'm no dove magician. But just interested in it for the knowledge and maybe 1 day do it myself. What's the minimum forward distance for the Sleeve Toss? Does head in and head out changes that figure? Just say if it's a brick wall in front of you that will kill the dove? What's the safe minimum distance for the sleeve toss? Of course, it's not really a brick wall, it's audiences. Brick wall is just a saying. |

Gary, interesting question. I don't think there really is a minimum. It depends on the force you exert during the toss and the training of the dove. I've seen magician do a very short toss and the bird goes out about 2 ft. Others make a very pronounced toss and the bird flies out 7 or 8 or more feet. In my opinion, the head in method, which I don't personally approve of, would be a shorter distance and the there would be no arch to worry about. It's just a straight out and straight back toss.

Hi Gary, there is no minimum, look at Lance Burtons first production, he only throws it about two foot at the most and looks fantastic! The further you throw of course the more the dove has to fly back meaning it has more time to choose where it wants to go rather than coming back to you! As long as you've spent atleast a 6 week period training the dove to fly back to you daily, then it should come back 8/9 times out of 10. Why not train one dove to fly a short distance and another a long distance and see the difference in your reactions.
