Hey, I've only recently started to take packet tricks seriously. I do reset, twisted sisters, NFW and a few others I invented myself. I've got the Art of Astonishment series and Harris' Close Up Fantasies, Card College and Harry Lorayne's Close Up Card Magic, among others. Ideally, some of your favorites from these, but really outstanding others could be mentioned. I've read through a lot of the other thread recommendations and started culling ideas, but I've had trouble figuring out where to start.

One of the best places to start is probably a book called "Small But Deadly".

You are off to a great start with those books and those three tricks. Paul's recommendation is right on.

Packet tricks with simple, quick, instant etc. reset that have a huge impact other than the few you mentioned can be found here http://www.gmrcreations.com/bob/under15.htm#mindblank
Check out Mind Blank and Psy Match. I have both and they just kill every time. iol own a lot of Bob Solari tricks and I've never been disappointed. Both tricks have even floored magicians. Hoped this helps....and oh yeah NFW is always a crowd pleaser.

Nice - great recommendations for cost effective ways to start.
Yeah, I love NFW. I make all my own gaffs, so when I see something good that needs one, I have to whip it up immediately. I saw a clip of NFW and watched it a few times and came up with something that's either the same or pretty close. But this is a great cache of info - thanks. |

Just to let you know, Spellbinder let me have a little time off for Christmas, but he's now cracking the whip and I'm hard at work on the sequel... The "I STILL Hate Card Tricks" Book of Card Tricks. This will keep ME busy for months!

I get a good reaction from Tannen's "Gamble Amble." It doesn't use a table or pocket, all in the hands, and it only uses one sleight throughout the routine.

"Capitulatin Queens" by Jim Swain can be found in his book, "Don't Blink"...
Effect: Four queens shown and the spectator asked to pick one. The one that they chose is shown to have a different back then the other three. Then you show that if they chose any of the other queens it would have been different from the other three as well. This is repeated a couple more times showing different backs each time. Looks great and although your left a little dirty, it's a simple matter to clean up at the end. Rudy |

On Daryl's Fooler Doolers volume 3 is Back Flip by Sam Schwartz - I've gotten nothing but great reactions. If you get into it, I recommend making your own mirror back cards - go to a hobby shop and pick up some inexpensive chrome monokote trim sheets.

"Packet Tricks" by Jerry Mentzer
"Counts, Cuts Moves & Subtlety" by Jerry Mentzer "Focus" by Phil Goldstein These are the books that gave me my start in packet tricks. At first, I did not like the idea of carrying around four or five single cards (kinda suspicious), then came Twisted Sisters/All Backs/NFW/Alien Autopsy. Really, this IS a specialized form of close-up. I LOVE it! Doug |

Ron Frost created over 2000 Packet Card effects--
WILD CARD OUTDONE is 1 of my favorites, as well as OUT OF ORDER (Parts 1 & 2). Most have been discontinued, but others can be purchased currently.

I really like performing John Carney's "Sanverted" which uses 4 ordinary aces from any deck.
From my book Kingdom of the Red I almost always perform "Urokinase" which uses 4 ordinary red cards and 4 black cards. Another impromptu packet effect from my book is is "Zero Sum Game" using 5 ordinary playing cards. And probably my all time favorite is "Three Lesson Monte" also taught in my book and DVD. Larry |
