Hello, I just found a cute mini deck of cards at Wal-Mart in the party supplies section. It was Hoyle but that's OK. Anyway, I was wondering if there are specific tricks written using a mini card. I can think of a few uses like making a selected card shrink. Hey, I could even use the mini deck all the time because it would be easier to palm a card and do one handed cuts!

There are a couple. One I know is called fusion card and the effect is basically that you end up with a double face card on one side, the regular sized face, and the smaller mini card "fused" into the regular sized card.... kind of like any other double faced card fusing together trick...

Martin Lewis' "Impossible Minature Card Rise" is totally great. You put a cased deck of cards on an ashtray and put a glass on them. In this impossible situation, two selections rise from the deck. After the performance, you can have spectator examine all props. This effect is described in his "Magical Inventions" lecture note.

Wow! As usual Martin, extensive posts that have more than enough information for all of us! Thanx!
I personally had a great interest in mini decks and came up with my own trick where a selected signed card switches places with the identical card in the mini deck. It's quite visual in a sense that I make the mini card appear in the empty box of cards (big box) after showing it all the way around and shaking it to prove nothing is inside. I then place the mini deck above the box and snap me fingers and I shake the big box and a card is heard inside! I've fooled magicians with this because there is no palming or loading of the mini card, it actually is heard inside the box and it is tipped out slowly just SECONDS after showing it empty all the way to the end of the box! Further more, the signed card is found inside the already examined mini deck, in the middle, folded in quarters. I hope to come up with more! The mini card in balloon sounds pretty cool! All the best, Logan

Here’s a miniature card trick that’s easy but pretty strong and lots of fun. I got it from one of Daryl’s Card Revelations (I forget which one).
Effect: Magician (Mag) Hindu shuffles a regular-sized deck and ask Spectator to stay STOP (Yea I know you hate Hindu shuffles, but it works with this one) . Spec says stop, and Mag turns away and shows Spec card, let’s say 3H. Mag says “Don’t tell what card it is. But just tell me if it’s a big card or small card.” Spec says “Small Card” Mag riffles deck. As he does, a MINIATURE 3H shoots out! Mag says “Wow. You were right when you said a SMALL card’ METHOD AND SETUP ( Pretty obvious, but effective): SET UP: Put force card (3H) on bottom of deck. Just above force card, put a Miniature duplicate of force (3H). (Check: Miniature duplicate 3H second from bottom. Regular 3H on bottom) METHOD: 1. Hindu shuffle force the bottom card (3H). In case you don’t remember this force, briefly, you Hindu shuffle the top of the deck into your left hand, and ask Spec to say STOP. Then show bottom card (3H) in right hand, and throw the top packet (with the force on bottom) on top of the packet in left hand, thus putting the large 3H with the Miniature dup over it somewhere in the middle of the deck). 2. Ask Spec if it’s a Little card or Big card., then riffle the front end (outer end) of the deck holding the inner half closed. This will cause the miniature to shoot out of the front of the deck. It takes a little practice, but it’s easy. TIP: when you set up the Mini card, keep it close to the front of the deck. This makes it easier to shoot out. Try it. Henry |

Cool trick Henry. I had fun for about a half hour just shootin cards out of my deck. I tried to get it so I could shoot it up and catch it in my hand but I can't control the flight path very well yet. Thanks again.

I had an item in Paul Harris' "Close Up Kinda Guy" called "Mike's Dwarf." It didn't make it into the AOA series but it's a good item. A spectator selects a card and when she goes to return it to the deck, the cards have shrunk to mini size. Paul didn't write it up this way, but I always followed the shrinking with a trick. The spec places her normal size selection into the mini spread. It turns out to locate the mate of the selection.

Mike Powers is probably too modest to toot his own horn, but his marketed effect, "Diminishing Returns," is THE BEST version of Brother John Hamman's Micro-Macro trick and THE BEST miniature card effect I know of, although you can't do it with the miniature deck you bought. Thanks Mike for marketing such a killer.

I agree that diminishing returns is a very visual trick.

If you have one of those nice brass chambers with the fine threading, use it to your advantage. Have them select a card (free choice) and sign it. Give it a quick mix, while controlling the card to a palming position. Palm it off and give the deck to spect to shuffle. Load it into container and put on table. Have them look thru deck for their card. When they casn't foind it, point to the container on the table. Haver them undo the lid. IOt takes like 30 seconds, and finally, the signed card is revealed.

For a good laugh you could start things out by saying, "I would like to begin the evening with a little card manipulation." And then start doing tiny fans and productions.
I actually just found a deck at a gaming store that is so tiny! They're about 3/4 tall. Very cute! |

If you work with kids, miniature cards are great to use to have a puppet do a card trick, since they're just the right size. Kids think it's great that the puppet has his own cards.

I definitely have to agree with the bizarre shrink. I've been using it for years and it's really fun.
Another good one is Parallel Worlds by Jay Sankey. A regular sized deck and mini deck are shown. A selected card from the regular deck is chosen and returned to the card box. A shake and now in the box is the mini card but wait, in the mini card box among the mini deck is the folded regular sized card. |
