You know what...when I signed up, I didn't realize I could put my "real name" as my username or whether I should. I was new to magic, new to magic boards, and didn't know my username (which I thought was just for me to use to log in) would be used to judge my character, my intelligence, and my worth in posting. That said, I took advantage of the price match feature of L&L and got the recent Swain DVD free with my Eugene Burger purchase. Of course, it seems I'm not supposed to say something nice about L&L even though Chris praises Madhatter magic whenever he can. Anyway, the Swain DVD had a lot of great moves on it. As someone else said, I wouldn't watch it for entertainment, but I would reference it when needing an alternative move. It is obvious that Mr. Swain has a LOT of talent and I would be interested in seeing other things from him. I didn't realize how hard some of the moves were until actually trying them! He makes them look so easy! All that said, you probably shouldn't trust me since I am anonymous. Barry Daugherty |

At least when I say something, even if people don't like it, they know who is saying it.

I searched and figured out how to get a name change and that has taken effect. I'll try to add a picture later. I can understand what you're saying. It is definitely wrong for an anonymous person to be overly bold and rude. But I also think it's not very fair when a person's posts are judged by the name or picture. But, so be it. That's life.
If I was interested in seeing other Swain material, what would people recommend? Thanks! Barry |

No release date yet but he shot a traditional DVD set at the same time he did the moves DVD.

He has work on the multiple lift and the Pass?
I've always heard that Mr.Swain's pass is one of the best, would love to see it ( or not to see it .. haha ), especially if its a dribble, since I'm a big fan of this move. *saving money* ~ Feras |

This is a nice bonus from l&l especially when you price match an item.

Very good dvd. Worth the price:)
Can't wait for the set to come out. Brief review: I went through all the moves with cards in hand a few times. I'd say 90% of the material is doable for the average cardman. (I have always had a hard time with multiple one-handed cuts so that's the ten percent.) The hustler false shuffle is worth the "price" of admission. I have applied it to my push through with very gratifying results. Note there is a small step that the video skips over on this section. Can be confusing at first but if you know the basics of a push through then you shouldn't have problems with it. Surprisingly a lot of the moves were very easy. A friend of mine and I were a little surprised that LL was giving this away. My only guess could be its a marketing move to get people interested in more work from Swain. |

I've seen Jim in person, a couple of years ago when he was on an author tour, promoting one of his novels. He gave a talk on gambling and moves, and what he'd researched for the novel. Wow, is he good! I wish they'd taped that talk, it was very entertaining.

Although I do not yet have the giveaway DVD, I was at Jim's shoot (with Tom) and we're all in for a REALLY BIG treat when his DVD set eventually hits the market. His card magic is top-notch! Not only is Jim incredibly talented at magic, he's a fantastic writer, too...his books tend to have a gambling theme, such as Deadman's Poker and Deadman's Bluff.

I used to read a book by Jim Swain called Don't blink: The magic of James Swain. I thought it was well written. He, however, is also a prolific writer of magic novels, such as Deadman's Bluff, Deadman's Poker, Funny Money, Sucker Bet, etc.

DVD arrived yesterday. I noticed it's burned, not pressed, and part of it is messing up. I still think it's cool, and the fact that they were giving it away (along with an item of choice from the "World's Greatest Magic" series), definitely motivated me to buy something I would have continued putting off.
