I was going to order a few books I have on my 2008 wishlist.
But I'm having trouble getting there, I'm being directed to Go Daddy. Anyone else having this problem? BTW, hello to DOC, Silverking, Tommy, Ben & Expert. It's been a while since I last posted. I've been lurking and still practicing.

Hi Sportsshooter
Yes I get the same. I ran anti spy and then did get their site after but on clicking a link there at GBC I was right back again to Go Daddy?? Maybe if you phone them and tell them, they should then give you free books as that must be costing them money.

Tommy,
Thanks for the response. I wasn't sure if it was my computer? I'll give them a call around lunch time here which will be 9am there. Raul

Hey Silver! I'm doing great. I had a great Christmas & New Year How about your holiday season?
Have you obtained any new editions? All I have added is the "Bible" edition. Pretty neat, smaller than I anticipated. I'm going to start looking again for some to add to my meager collection. BTW, I spoke to GBC and they were working on the problem and it is now fixed. I'll finally get around to getting "The Man who was Erdnase". Do you have it? What are your thoughts.

I downloaded a BBC radio documentary on Erdnase... Ortiz and others just chating a little about him for about 15 minutes.

I'll finally get around to getting "The Man who was Erdnase". Do you have it? What are your thoughts. Richard Hatch will tell you (as he told me) that "The Man who was Erdnase", although flawed in it's final assumption of who Erdnase really was, is so full of otherwise excellent research that it's a must have in order to more clearly understand Erdnase and his book. It's worth pointing out since we're talking about it, that even though this book goes for over $100.00 on ebay, it's ALWAYS been available at GBC for around $45.00! Although there's likely not a lot of copies left, and the book is OOP. |

In 2002 there was a centeenary edition of Ednase that is an exact replica of the 1st edition. Do you know where they are selling them?

Tommy, they're all gone, and have been for quite a while.
They tended to show up now and then on ebay a year or so ago, and were going for around $70.00 or so. I haven't seen one for quite a while now. I have one, and if you can get your hands on one, don't hesitate to do so. Other than a single word on the frontspage (facsimile), it's an identical book to a first edition in terms of cover cloth, typeface, original drawings, etc......every single page is identical to a first edition. Rumor has it that an actual first edition was on hand while producing this book. It was originally a mystery as to who actually produced these books, and despite looking, I've not been able to find out anything further than the publisher was anonymous, just like Erdnase himself. Anyway, these are easily worth $100.00 if you can get one. |

Thanks Silver, I guess I'll go ahead and order it and check it off my wish list for 2008.
Hi Tommy! I'll concur with what Silver says. I got mine about a year or so ago from Richard for $52. It's worth giving him a call, maybe he knows someone? It's a beautiful facsimile, probably the closest I'll get to a first edition. Jason & some others have out bid me on a few 1st edition in the past couple of years. Can you direct me to that BBC documentary?

Tommy, it would be great if you could post the link to that documentary.
Like Sportshooter I got my facsimile from Richard Hatch about a year ago but it seems to be out of stock now: http://www.magicbookshop.com/product_inf......_id=7941 Thanks for the tip about "the man who was Erdnase" at the GBC, the only one I could seem to find were on ebay for twice the price |

Hey guys,
The Busby/Gardner/Whaley book is FANTASTIC. I actually own two copies (one sealed) because I love it so much. If you have a chance, grab it. The facsimile is equally beautiful, for different reasons. I wish I had grabbed more then one when I had the chance. Ben p.s. Tommy, I actually DID make my own. Special binding, cover, etc. I carry it around a lot, so if we ever meet up I'll be happy to show it to you!

Hey DOC,
Yeah the ladies have been great to me! LOL! They know they don't want me to call DOC. I'll be here a lot more than I have in the past year. Sometimes things get put on the back burner but eventually they get moved back up front. It's great to be back! Respectfully, SS

Hey Sharp,
No problem. First, use a dover edition. There are two reasons for this: 1) It's readily available and cheap. 2) It has the MOST white/blank space of any edition (with the exception, possibly, of Revelations) to make notes in. Second, I got the spine ripped out and then had it comb bound. This allows the book to lie flat and fold over, giving me more support to write when I'm on a bus or walking. Third, get it recovered. The early Drake pictorial looked great- unfortunately the dover poor mans version looks like crap. I ripped of the cover and had it redone. My cover is forest green vinyl with gold text embossed in that says EXPERT. I've also created a dust jacket (I have a lot of time) that makes it look like a manual on watch/clock repair. Sort of an inside joke. I'll post a picture of it when I get home. Ben p.s. Here's a wacky idea for someone to try. Me and my friend Shane kicked it around but ended up not doing it. Get the bible edition. Gut it. Get a new, blank, pad and glue it in. You now have a matching book to write notes in when studying the bible edition. Just a thought.

With regard to making me a fancy copy of Erdnase this is what I am thinking:
Firstly you need a copy on PDF, which I happen to have already. So save it to a word processor and then select all and change the font and it’s size. Now I fancied rather than have a book why not have something that looks like an original transcript just for fun. To that end I chose an hand writing font script. Now print it out onto some art cotton paper and put it in an album like this or one that you like: http://www.aspinaloflondon.com/details.a......ignID=62

If you really want to go crazy, track down old paper (not as hard as you think) and HAND WRITE out the book. With all honesty, it shouldn't take more then about 10 or so hours, and it would be a one of a kind item. Heck can an art student to illustrate the book for you, using your hands/smiths illustrations as a template.
