Link - Ben Williams
this is about to be released any day now I beleive, so I thought I would start a thread...... for those who didn't see the ad in magicseen this month, breifly: its an effect with a uk £2 coin you first melt the middle of the coin out so that you have a ring and a centre peice you then take a specs finger ring and link it onto the ring part of the coin! to finish you restore the coin and hand it back to them I'll be picking one up for sure! no demo's or ads online yet as far as I know, but http://www.magicshop.co.uk will be stocking them I think any ideas on the release date ben, or are you holding out for blackpool? |

This is a really clever effect and method. A few years ago I came up with the idea myself of rubbing away or pushing out the centre of the £2 coin, and linking the 2 coins. That was the effect I wanted to create. Then I thought it would be great if I could link other things to it as well. The method I came up with seemed almost impossible for any coin engineer to re-create at the time. Then about 6-8 months ago, going through some old notebooks, I came across that idea again, and set to see if anyone could now make it with the newer technology we now have. So I contacted Dominic Reyes at Merchant of Magic and told him of my idea, and he told me how weird it was, as that was something Ben Williams had worked on! (Must be a Williams thing!)
So Ben got in contact with me and showed me his version. It is VERY nice and workable, but also COMPLETELY different in the method I had came up with myself. However, after speaking with Ben about it, he said he too had come up with the same method I had at one point, and although as great that method is, it seems impossible for anyone to be able to manufacture it. So that being said, Ben has come up with a really clever gimmick which allows you to link melt the centre of the £2 coin out, and link it to a ring etc, and un-link it as well. Very clever in construction and method, so look out for these when they are released! |

Oh I thought the effect was that you popped the middle out leaving just the rim of the coin.

Any indication at all? I must admit Blackpool would be a great venue to release these. |

You should call the trick "Linkoin". That would be a nifty name.

Looks really good!
The 2 Euro coin is just 3mm smaller in radius as the 2 pound coin. It has also the different looking middle part If this is going to be a success with the 2 pound coin, please think about a release of this coin as a 2 euro coin.European magicians will be happy |

Thanks for your interest everyone, I know Matt has been biting at my ankles for this one for a while now! Almost there Matt, don't worry you will be one of the first to know.
It is a fun routine but is not limited to linking a finger ring, you can perform spell bound routines with a real coin and the outer edge, one of my favourite quickies is to perform the Karate Coin with the gimmick, it is fast and fun and easy to do. To be honest with laypeople it is quite fun just popping the centre out and popping it back in and watching them try to do the same with their coins!! We have been thinking about releasing a different currency but as of yet no decisions have been made at all. Thanks again for all of your comments, I hope to see most of you at Blackpool. Ben |

The set will consist of two gaff coins.
One the centre comes out and both pieces can be looked at, the other is your secret weapon. That is all I can say! Thanks, Ben |
