I just got my IJA news letter from Martin Frost, and Marty says that there is a new improved IJA forum. I have been to the old IJA forum, and if you were not one of the in crowd no one would talk to you, also the only thing that was ever discussed was internal IJA politics. It was like joining a Democrat, or Republican blog and had nothing to do with juggling or performing at all. Has anyone had a different experience with the new and improved IJA forum? I am a life long juggler, and I want to support my art, but the people I ran into at the forum were boring jerks. Please don't make me name names.

AL,
Not that much has changed over there. I tune in from time to time and there is usually the same old people whining over the same old things. Mostly political BS. Nothing interesting or thought provoking being discussed about juggling, the IJA or any related subject. Kind of sad really. It could be so much more than it is. I tune in a lot more to this room of the Café, Gatto Talk, and rec.jugg. Much more interesting stuff. The IJA forum needs some serious help. Of course, these are just my own personal feelings and opinions.

The one thing I noticed about everyone at that forum is none of them ever got a pay check for juggling in their life, so how are you going to get a performance tip from a computer programmer.

They have also just changed the policy where you must be a member to read OR post. Some kind of username and password are necessary and I never have figured out how to get started. I'm a Life Member and don't know how to get in if I wanted to. However, my brother AL's opinions are pretty much the same as mine - too much bickering about the state of the organization.

As an English member of the IJA I find that as an organisation it does nothing for me apart from producing a magazine every so often. They have 900 or so members which is tiny compared to the number of jugglers out there. The British Juggling Convention attracts that sort of number (and in the past has attracted 1500+). The EJC is numbered in the 1000's and generally is well organised, friendly and welcoming. If the IJA were to really try and follow their remit then they would be in contact with every juggling club in the world, rather than being exclusive as to who could join their little gang. By this I mean the large amount of paperwork involved in being an affiliate (most of which makes no sense to anyone outside the US). I'd like to see a truly International organisation that promoted juggling throughout the world but unfortunately I feel that the IJA is as International as the World Series is worldwide.

I knew a man who kept saying "pliers, pincers, scissors". He was speaking in tongs.

I had trouble loging on before, but they recently made it easier.

Everything you say is absolutely correct. If it makes you feel any better they don't do much for Americans either.
