Everyone has a slightly (sometimes not so slightly) different piece of advice. Here's mine.

It has been truly said that *learning* 90% of the Tarbell Course will put you in the upper 10% of the world's magicians and mentalists.

I think that was Harlan Tarbell who said that Smile
I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

I have not read every post so this could have been recommended above....but, if you are not a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians...you may want to go there. Joining with other magicians might help clarify 'where' you wish to go and what you want to do with your magic. Best,

I think the first person to say that was David Bamberg.

That's quite a collection!
When I really began to study magic again as an adult, I went on a serious shopping spree buying up every trick that would strike my fancy or was "in" at the moment. I have parted with most of it since then!
It was in Las Vegas over breakfast with Steve Daly who was in Showgirls of Magic at the time that told me it was all in Tarbell. I went out and bought all 8 volumes and still refer to them constantly. Between that and Royal Road you should be kept very busy for quite some time. And you'll also be armed with a solid foundation that will enable you to create your own material.
Best of luck!
