OK.. so we've discussed the stinkers we walked out on.
What about the pure gold you discovered by accident? What about the movies you had to see because the one you wanted to see was sold out and loved it! Your friend dragged you in kicking and screaming and you came out singing its praises? This is a "treasure" I discovered. I've purchased several copies on DVD to give to friends because they had never heard of it. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JNrrLO_Pus8 Best, Tim |

Yeah, Tim, that's a good one!
Anyway, Netflix just sent us something called "Greenfingers" that wasn't on our cue. Nice movie though! Really glad they messed up. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0203540/trai......5034-310

In America? Well I guess it just happened to me then too. Never heard of it...certainly will get it.
I usually know a lot about any film I see but there are hidden treasures all the time like performances... The Green Mile...I'll never forget John Coffee. But if I had to pick one that really caught me off guard it was The Girl In The Café. Bill Nighy (and the girl) were brilliant. Thanks for 'In America'!

Doug,
Here's hoping you get it. There is SO much more than in the trailer. Let us know if you see it. Best, Tim |

I also like to rope folks into viewing this film...
'STRINGS' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-Vhfp3qCOM This film takes place in a massive world of marionettes who are very aware of their own "strings". I won't spoil the story but there are MANY cool ideas in this shortish film. |

Pure gold? No, but definitely a bronze contender:

I stumbled onto this film a while back. It's called "Wristcutters: A Love Story" what a brilliantly enjoyable film.
Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kdqfp6_6rY I was shown this film in my Film Studies class. I really enjoyed it. There are no moving pictures but it is still a great watch. It's called "La Jetee" and is originally a French film. We watched it in French... Go Quebec! . The English alright, it seems as if some things were lost in translation though. You can watch the film on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RvmJan17q8 Enjoy! Mitchell

It is hard to answer for me. I tend to ignore what is coming out because I'm likely one of the few people who actually attended more live performances than movies. I do watch movies on cable that I never heard of and often am pleasantly surprised. I watched a movie called Music and Lyrics, something like that, with Hugh Grant and whatzername and really enjoyed it.

The best movie I have seen in a long time, is Pans Labyrinth.
I own it and watch it all the time. 5 stars easy!! Great story, great acting, great effects, and so nice to see something that didn't use the typical Hollywood formula for a movie. Randi |

My favorite film that I discovered by accident on cable has to be "Finding Graceland" (which for some reason I always want to call "The Road To Graceland," go figure.)

I was dragged into The Devil Wears Prada. I now own the DVD. Love it!
Another big-screen gem I saw was The Prestige. Despite the fact that it was a magic-based film I went in with low expectations. I was in awe and it is now my all-time favourite movie.

The Shawshank Redemption.
I'd never heard of this until I watched one of those "50 Greatest Film" things on TV. I bought the DVD and loved it.
