I spoke with him on the phone years ago. He was nice enough to send me some OLD tickets to some of his shows, business cards and some assorted little ephemera items for my collection.
I believe you're talking about Raymond Corbin, correct? Steve |

If this is the same fellow that did the midnight "spook shows," there is lots of information about him in Mark Walker's great 1994 book "GhostMasters," which is a pictorial history of the midnight spook shows. The book is now out of print, but some copies are apparently still available through Amazon, click HERE to view, and probably also from used bookstores at the Advanced Book Exchange, at http://www.abebooks.com.
BTW, this was a very interesting niche area of magic, and one that was apparently very popular and quite profitable in the 30's and 40's, less so in the 50's and 60's. For those that are interested, there is a DVD available with a number of rare "spook show" trailers that were shown in participating movie houses to drum up interest in the upcoming show. Click HERE for more info. The DVD also has a collection of spook show ephemera, including posters, flyers, lobby cards, etc., as well as two typical "spook show" movies that would precede the actual spook show. SETH

The original movie reels are in David's custody at his home. I remember Ray would show them to me in his studio. He has also played along Bela Lugosi.
Thank you Seth for sharing memories of this fine gentelman of magic. |
