You are welcome, Kyle. Does anybody know who the other two competitors will be?

It's difficult for me as I wish there were two "first place" prizes...as I think the judges will also wish.. I have to root for both Kimmo and Jolly Roger! Both have such unique and distinct styles....
I think the contest will boil down to these two gentlemen.... |

I had actually decided not to attend the Blackpool Convention this year. We are going to Florida in March and I didn't feel I could afford to take the time off! I'd already heard that Roger was taking part in the competition and was absolutely gutted that I couldn't be there to root for him, when an email arrived asking me to enter as well! It was an opportunity to perform at Blackpool Opera House on the same bill as Roger and David Ginn, two of my heroes in magic - how could I refuse? This left me with a problem - I had already taken bookings over the Blackpool weekend. I phoned my clients and explained the situation and to my surprise, the lady who had booked Saturday morning (when the competition takes place) was only too happy to move the party forward a week and said she had been planning to do so! It still leaves me with a pretty hectic weekend. I'll be travelling up to Blackpool on Friday the 22nd, performing in the competition the following morning and then driving back to do a close up job in Sheffield that evening. On Sunday I will head back to Blackpool, but stop off at Buxton on the way to do a kids show!! I'm really doing it for the experience - I spend most of my time in school halls and living rooms and I'd like to see if I can make a connection with a bigger crowd in a large theatre. For the first time in years, I'm nervous about a show!!

Best of luck Kimmo. The Opera House is a big place - a very big place! Do let us know how it was organised.
They may put the children on the stage with you which would allow proximity. If they're seated in the auditorium they will be a long way away.. The orchestra pit is wide and deep but at least they wouldn't be able to tear you apart so easily! British children can be wild and untameable. That's why so many are sent away to boarding school to be trained and beaten into submission. Incidentally Kimmo - what do the numbers "(2), (8), (21), (25), (36), (37)" signify in your signature?

Andy Clockwise has just announced on another forum that the final lineup for the Competition will be:
Jolly Roger David Ginn Andy Clockwise Magic Dave Silly Billy Kimmo Now I know how it feels to be the underdog!! At least I wouldn't mind losing to any of the above!! Thinking about it, there are several U.K. entertainers who are called Silly Billy, but I'm hoping it will be David Kaye, because I'd love to get a chance to meet him.

I'm rooting for both Roger and Kimmo, and am hoping it's a draw between the two!
Their styles are so unique I wonder if they shouldn't have two first-place purses? |

David Ginn is also a classic, and Silly Bill is hilarious. What a show . . . I do wonder, however, if it is the "world championships" why are there no magicians from any other countries? In the US, we call the Super Bowl the "World Championship" and the NBA winners "the world champions." But is it really true? The World Cup and the Olympics produce world champions . . . Can a magic competition with contestants from two countries? Wouldn't it just be better to call it the Blackpool Championship, or something . . . Not to dampen the excitement . . . It does sound like about the toughest competition I can imagine, and I've only seen half the competitors on video . . .

Hi Mumblemore,
This was discussed in another thread a while back. It's a very hazy title with nothing really to back it up. Won't mean much outside of the convention I understand. Although the winner for sure will feature it on their promo stuff and website. "World Champion of Children's Entertainers" or some such hyperbole. JoJo

Apparently, Andy Clockwise was incorrect when he said that Silly Billy was competing. That's a shame, I'd like to meet him.
Mumblemore and JoJo - I agree that it seems a rather grand title for a competition where a non-english speaking magician would stand very little chance! Not very fair on the rest of the world!! For me, it's a fun chance to be on a bill with some excellent entertainers from the UK and USA. I am very honoured that I have been invited to take part, but I'm under no illusions that it makes me one of the best in the world!!

Unlike adult magic acts, many of which are silent, I think it would be very hard to have competitors from non-english speaking countries, as most children's entertainers use patter, and rely on this for audience interaction. If Silly Billy is not competing, does anyone know who is number six?
