Rough and Smooth

Do you recall the old Rough and Smooth scam. You know the decks that were made one smooth and one with a linen finish. Used for touch work like the punch or whatever. Anyway can you make them? I mean buy some Bee decks or whatever and put some of the decks through a print finishing process that gives you the result, if you follow my meaning.

I used to be in the forgery business and think I have good idea how to do it but was wondering if its already being done some way.

I believe that it was done a little differently...

There is a certain substance that is sprayed evenly over the backs of the target cards.

Tommy, CC is correct but try your way any way because we may like it better. New and improved cheating techniques pop up everyday.

Yes well what it used be was the card makers USPCC made them That is they made two sorts of bees and one had a smooth back and the other a linen/cumbric rough finish. So the sharps mixed them to get an advantage but this was years ago. But anyway all it was is that the linen finish went through an extra print process to put the linen finish on them. They were used in casino as I recall in black jack so they were not bad. However they stoped making them but I don't think it would be hard to do your own. I will have a go anyway and let you know.

I have some new old stock smooth finish bee's. Mixing them in with the cambric's makes for very strong work. You won't need the delicate touch of a surgeon to tell the difference. I experimented with the spray on stuff years ago and don't remember it being that strong. The idea of putting them through some type of print finishing is interesting.

Up until about ten years ago it was possible to slick USPCC cards with car polish (Simonize was always recommended, but I had good luck with other brands too).
Then USPCC changed the finish to what it is today. The new finish is so slick on its own that I have not been able to make them any slicker than the way they come out of the box.
I have a few decks of Piatniks that are nowhere near as slick as USPCC cards, and the car polish works well with those, but because they are not common cards in the US, its not a technique I use anymore. I'd be interested in what you are able to come up with.

Tommy, bees don't come cambric finish anymore. you might be able to achieve this effect with some type of slick "ace" fluid.

Just hang on there. Don't Bee Cards already have a cambric finish? Have they just stoped making the smooth? I use Kems so wouldn't know realy. I have got some old Bees here and they look like a cambric finish to me.

Tommy,
I have two decks of Bees in front of me. One deck of "Club Specials" and one deck of "Premium Casino". Both have the simulated fabric finish that used to be called Cambric on the packaging. evidently, when they discontinued the smooth finish Bees, they stopped mentioning the finish on the packaging.
For my part, I can't tell any difference between the two grades. Inserting cards from one deck into the other, I can detect no difference in the slickness of the finish.
Have you run across the counterfeit Bees that are all over the place? They are sold cheap in Dollar stores, and can be identified by a green metallic sticker that says they are "authentic" or some such lie.
They look pretty good, but the finish is some sort of sprayed on stuff, and they don't spread well at all. If you could get a deck of those, they might handle differently enough to do what you need.

So basically they have stopped making the smooth and just do the Cambrics now. So it's a waste of time putting a cambric finnish on them.

Yes, I guess you'll have to find another way to change the feel.

Well I guess you could still put some sort of finish on them. For the home hobbyist I guess you could get an embossing die made and use one of these machines.

I was thinking of taking then to a print finishers I know but I have sort of lost heart in the project now. I was thinking they had stopped making the Cambric finish.

The "Premium Casino" Bees no longer say it at all. The "Club Special" Bees say it on the bottom of the tuck box. It used to be on the side of the package in large white letters.
Interestingly, the UPC code for both versions is identical, 0 73854 00092 2.
I had several decks of the counterfeit Bees around, and I wanted to see what the packaging said, but I can't seem to put my hands on them at the moment.

OK lets start again. Smile I have some KEMs here and the finish on KEMs is smooth. So what about putting a Cambric finish in them. So we can do the old rough and smooth scam, as you could do with Bees before they stoped making the snooth sort.
