Assuming I'm only buying one, which one do you recommend, guys?
Are they similar? Can you find effects that are in both books? How many? Well, I just wanted some advice on this. Thanks in advance,

The Subtle Card Creations is due to release only on March. The contents are different but the way the effects are organize in both books are the same.
Pick both of them up, you will not regret it. The Card Magic of Nick Trost is my favourite book. I've read that there are a total of 9 volumes of Subtle Card Creations in the making. I can't wait!! Alvin
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.

You won't have any problem getting the new "Subtle Card Creations" and should order it without delay for the 30 some dollars it's going to cost you.
"The Card Magic of Nick Trost" is long OOP and more difficult to find, and when you do find it, will go for over $100.00. I'd get the new book first, and if you like what you read.......go on a hunt for the first book. Along with everybody else, when March comes around I'll have the new book to add to my copy of the original.......and if you CAN afford them both, then GET them both. They both contain completely different material. (BTW, the "nine volumes" thing was NOT accurate, it was Nick Trost pulling Mike Powers leg......) |

No doubt by the time the seventh volume is finished, the prolific Mr. Trost will have 2 more volumes of material ready to publish!). The initial response to the as yet unpublished first volume (at the printer now!)has encourage us to begin the extensive work of preparing volume two already. Also, these volumes will be somewhat larger in format than the Card Magic of Nick Trost, which was 9 x 6 inches. These will be 10 x 7 inches.

Seven volumes?? I think my heart just (happily) skipped a beat. March (and volume 1) can't come soon enough for me.

Dick, I don't think Mike can tell if his leg is being pulled or not

Yeah, I wondered about that post! Originally Nick wanted all volumes issued simultaneously. But the work involved to prepare them would have introduced a huge delay, so we chose to issue them sequentially instead. But, trust me, Nick has sufficient material organized for an incredible multi-volume series. This first volume includes an appendix of sleights used in all the volumes, so obviously anyone interested in Nick's material should get this one to start with!

An interesting new benchmark price has been hit on Ebay for Trost's first book "The Card Magic of Nick Trost".
The book just sold for $255.00 That's around double what it's been going for the last year or two. |

I recently bought Trost's new Subtle Card Creations, primarily due to the pre-release hype here on the Café, as well as from raves of his first book. Sadly, I was disappointed. I felt that most of the tricks required setups and prearrangements, which didn't seem very practical to me. I'm wondering what other impressions are, now that the book is actually out in the market.
Also, I wanted to ask those that know, was his first book similar to this? |

I have a nice clean copy of the first Trost book too. Didn't realize that it was going for so much.

That was in February, before it was reprinted.
Now it's worth around $45.00..... which is the cost of the second edition. It might be worth a few dollars more down the road as a first edition....but it's not right now. |
