Yes folks, you read well,The Great Mentalist Richard Osterlind in his dvd Mind Mysteries Vol.4 shows a coin in bottle SIGNED! It's great to sign the coin, but YOU BRING the bottle. This makes a non impromptu effect, use a particular brand of bottle and for the finish you need to break the bottle to take out the coin. These facts make it a little bit difficult for a real close up situation...FOR STAGE PROBABLY IT IS GREAT, BUT even the fact of having a coin marked in the Bottle is a great IDEA!
Anyone of you do this version? What are your experiences? Thanks, Hansel!

Is the signed coin able to be shown in the bottle prior to breaking it? If not, a marked coin has been used since the beginning of CIB routines.

There's only one coin used, and it is the spectator's coin.

Hansel,
The effect is basically a stage effect, a situation where it is entirely logical to use your own bottle. After over 25 years of doing it that way, I have yet to run into anyone who ever objected to that. But, I have no problems with the many other coin in bottle effects in the literature for the many performing situations that a performer might find himself in. As a matter of fact, I have a routine using a standard folding coin for certain situations. And yes, the coin in the bottle is the marked coin borrowed from the audience. The bottle is broken for effect. Kreskin has been using that ruse for years even though it isn't really necessary in his version. Richard |

I've seen the video clip of Richard performing his signed coin in the bottle and plan on eventually getting it. I like the idea that the spectator's actual signed coin ends up in the bottle.
Plus I like breaking stuff so the smashing the bottle appeals too!
