IAIN Eternal Order england 18807 Posts |
Yeah, just a quick heads up really, recently, well, monday - I ordered Reality is Plastic, The Art of Impromptu Hypnosis from Anthony Jacquin (he's on here, the link is in his signature I think)..
I've not had chance to read it all yet, but up to the bit I have, its very good...a nice little a5 booklet, it covers all the basics, as well as some fast inductions, how to's, photos, effects and I think (though hopefully anthony can clarify) you get a dvd/cd-rom with it too, if you are one of the first 200 to order...dont quote me on that, but I think that's the deal... anyway, have a look at his site: http://www.anthonyjacquin.com/products.html as I say, not had chance to read it 2 or 3 times yet, but so far, enjoyed it, and will be putting it into practice soon...
I've asked to be banned

Abraxus,
thanks for your kind feedback, glad to hear you will be stepping up to the mark and putting it into practice. If you have any questions about any of the techniques outlined I am very happy to answer them. Got a link here to one of the routines outlined called 'Fed' that you might enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkHw_UmS1Ko PS Yes, First edition is still available with the free DVD/CDRom. Best regards, Anthony

I own this, I couldn't be more impressed. I'm a very active hypnotist, and have already commented on this on several other hypnosis focused forums. I can never be more pleased when products are brought out that are so easily to read, with lots of pictures and I believe the free dvd disc still comes with the book.. which is so useful, I was there while a lot of it was being filmed and I know ant has done his very very best to make all the techniques so so easy to learn to do quick inductions.
I've bin there in the street doing these inductions, and seeing them done; I couldn't be more impressed with the image that this particular style of hypnosis brings; Its as mental as mentalism gets in my mind. Having done hypnosis for years I know the most important thing is getting your head straight, so many books say utter nonesense that is confusing; Whereas this book on impromptu hypnosis is so clear you can really just go straight out into the real world and zap people in the street.. I really mean that! the book made so much sense, then I watched the dvd that came FREE and it compounded everything deep into my mind, really this is the most logical understanding of hypnosis for impromptu-sque stuff! I really couldn't ask for much more from a hypnosis based product that could be so quickly applied to mentalism Vincent Lynch |

Vincent- I already own Ormond Mcgills New encyclopedia of hypnotism. Would you say this is still worth getting aswell? Having spoke to Anthony on here I like his thinking.

I respect you, Anthony. I'm in.
It looks very well done (I read the pages on your site). From what I can gather, it also seems to be well written and clear (attributes I value in a book). I look forward to learning from you. Thanks for sharing. With Regards, Sean |

This product sounds like something I could be intersted in but I've always heard that hypnosis is one of those things where a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. In other words, that it takes quite a bit of training and experience to know what you're doing and to be ready to handle unexpected sitations, participant reactions, etc. Can a book like this really put you in a position in which you're entertaining but not putting others or yourself at risk? I don't know very much about hypnosis -- I really don't -- so I am not trying to cause a problem. But can anybody out there address this?

No problem Omar, I have had the day off and been in front of the laptop for much of it so was able to respond quickly by email. The first 200 copies of the book will receive the DVD/CD Rom of footage for free. It will be posted to you first thing in the morning.

Anthony - feel free to answer my question, I just realized I should have directed that at you rather than Vincent.

I have some reservation replying to any call for a comparison given the large amount of respect I have for his work and his contribution to hypnotism and magic. I feel like a chef, proud of the book he has written on 15 minute meals being asked if it I sneeded by someone who has The Best of Mrs Beetons 8 volume kitchen encyclopedia. In both cases the answer is of course no. You don't need it. The question is are you doing the kind of hypnosis you want to do? McGills book was the first book I read on hypnosis. I loved it but as a fledgling hypnotist I just couldn't see the wood for the trees in it. I didn't know where to begin and many of the inductions just seemed too simple and if I am honest a bit old fashioned in that they were mostly authoritarian and repetitive. It's real value did not become apparent until I was a fairly experienced hypnotist and doing stage hypnosis too. Reality is Plastic (RIP) is a how to of hypnosis. If you do what it says in the book and develop the required attitude, intent and can at least feign the confidence to help things along then I expect you to hypnotise. I expect you to feel happy to do that at a party, in the middle of your mentalism act or at a sports club. The techniques I refer to as the Set Piece are classic examples of waking hypnosis. However I emphasise that using them as 'tests of responsiveness' or examples of 'waking hypnosis' is selling them short because they actually deliver so much more than that. Those who have trained with me or read my book will know what I mean. The inductions included - some are classic, some are my own- are all rapid, direct and road tested by me in both therapy and performance situations thousands of times. They work for me and fit my style of hypnosis Finally the routines. I feel I should explain a little about them. I did some work for a TV production company in the UK and without wishing to give away the premise of the show, it required me to test some common assumptions about hypnosis and this involved getting stuff for free. I went into a shop got a suit on and walked out in it leaving the staff member 'asleep'. I told a barman I was Denzel Washington and got free drinks. And in the market paid one guy with tissues and bottle tops and another was the cucumber routine above. Free hotel. Free coffees. Stole a coat etc. I decided to include the routines in the book. So someone asked on an NLP forum is RIP a handbook for sociopaths. The answer is no it is not. I just wanted to show what is possible. I was doing the above for entertainment purposes but fortunate in that it gave me an excuse to test a few boundaries I had about hypnosis. Hope that helps Best Regards, Anthony

I have to say I'm a bit skeptical about the claims made by this book with regards to hypnosis. I'm not saying that what is claimed can not be done by some other method but the suggestion that the results would be down to some kind of hypnosis isn't supported by current or past research in hypnosis. Have you published your findings in any clinical or scientific journals that I could read?

Hi S. Lea,
what claims? All of the routines are featured on the product page are explained in the book in full. They are not pie in the sky 'black ops' hypnosis. They are all things I have done and have on film. Some are routines I use regularly, some are odd one off's. My proper job, when not performing, is a hypnotherapist and I run a hypnotherapy training school. I have not and am not seeking to publish in any clinical or scientific journals. They have enough trouble even agreeing what hypnosis is. I am interested but happy to let that debate roll another few hundred years. Iambest It is in the post. What are you looking to do with impromptu hypno' skills - incorporate them into your act or something else? I have (Fre)EBook Paranoia. I'll get over it some point. Plus it is a training manual and I want you to be able to carry it round and go over the details. Anthony
