So many fond memories! The first time I met Jay Sankey was at Magie Montreal way way back in the late eighties I think. I was with my magic buddies Raymond, Marc and Richard. I saw him do a few things but the one that really caught my eyes (and I mean REALLY)was his torn and restored playing card (Cardboard Contortionnist). To say that I was flabbergasted is an understatement. He was even telling that he wanted to quit Magic in those time. Why, you asked? Well he is the only one able to answer that... if he will.
Then I saw him at his first ( I think) appearance as a performer at a Tannen's Jubilee. There he did his Collect Me Not (the first version which I still like better than his later streamlined one) his CC again and he finished us off with his Airtight routine ( CArd in Balloon). I thought that we were experiencing a new breakthrough, a new paradigm, whatever, in Magic. His magic was the only one that left me exhalirated(spelling?). I got a first glimpse of his stuff in print in Richard's Almanach. Then a few years later his first book Sankey Panky arrived. I missed work for two days digesting this tome. I was in heaven!!! Ah! those were the days!!!! Jay's Magic has always had a special place in my heart. I am very happy that he didn't quit magic, don't you think Jay? Yves Tourigny |
