Seems like it would ruin the patina on the outside of a cup but it would probably clean the inside real nice.

Probably the vinegar in the ketchup that does that. My mom had a set of revere ware copper pans and every so often, she'd mix vinegar and salt (for the grittiness) and clean the heck out of the copper on the pots.
Your other option is to hold the cups in your hands and urinate on the cups. This does two things. 1) it restores a lovely patina to the cups and 2) makes it so that the copper smell will be the least of your worries. Mind the carpet!

Yeah but using the ketchup way of doing it doesn't last long, the patina comes back pretty quick.
Now dipping your fries in the cup that which holds the ketchup, along with that special tang from the copper is simply heaven, it will set your tastebuds aflame! Wanna bite?

I tried putting a bunch of pennies, and one copper 3" jumbo in a bowl of vinegar. They shined up good as new, but when left to dry, they developed a white residue on them.
Then I polished them all like I normally do and they went back to their acceptable brilliance. I hand out shiny pennies all the time to kids (of appropriate age) along with a business card to the parents. So, I'm always polishing pennies. I thought the vinegar bath would be a nice short cut, but it didn't work for me. Oh well... |
