Daffy, Im confused. Are you agreeing with me or disagreeing? Just to make it clear, I think that Extreme Burn looks way better than Prophet. All of the fan boys over at theory 11 are saying Extreme burn is not as visual because "the bills go out of frame in the demo."
I don't see how flicking your wrist can be any better. There's no doubt in my mind though that they will sell copies, mainly because of the kids on theory11 that know nothing but theory11 and ellusionist. Half of them had never even heard of Richard Sanders.

I made up the gimmick today using magazine clippings, and while it works well, I have to be very careful not to flash edges. I like the count at the beginning Sanders gives, but at the end, I just need to be a wee bit cautious (could be my gimmick as well).
I will make up another gimmick using bills only now that I have this one made, and know I would not mind investing a little more in the effect. Question that can be answered in a PM, as not to expose on the site... what would you use if you wanted to make up more than one gimmick (I am talking about duplicating the special something that comes with the DVD). Perhaps he talks about it on the DVD, and I missed it. (just watched it again, and can't find it). Thanks! RevJohn |

I've read through this thread and I've had similar concerns as you about whether this is right for me, the casual performer, or not. I never liked Hundy 500 because the handling, with the convoluted turnover move and the slap count, always looked suspicious to me. I did think Heiny 500 looked beautiful but never bought it. I have Greed, which I like but don't use that much. I am thinking of succumbing to the hype and picking this u, though. I of course know how the gimmick works, but I like the idea that there are 90 minutes of subtleties and handlings here. Best, Scott |

Scott, I think it's great. But personally, I think slow burn, hundy, heiny, etc... all look equally good. If this was released first, and slow burn was the latest release, the magic community would probably be fawning over the wave change. We all want what we don't or didn't have. The changes all look amazing, but considering the bills can't be handed out, I'm much more concerned about a convincing count. The subtlety count, which looks very simillar to a count in Heiny 500 is quite convincing. Really looks fair. All this said, I still feel this effect poses a problem for the casual performer. It's just such an amazing change that to simply put the bills away (assuming you're performing for friends, your girl, or coworkers) is very odd. The natural thing, of course, would be to hand them out. But in the words of Steven Wright: You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Thanks, Platt. I probably will pick this up, although for me, effects like this are kind of like toys. I get off on the idea of them but then often find them a bit hard to justify performing in that their quick flashiness doesn't suit my style so well. Like you, I wonder what to do afterwards...

Well,i would use Extreme Burn while paying something (its being suggested by others in this thread too). After the change you take 2 or 3 of the bills pay your stuff and put the pack of money away.
I think it will hit them stronger if presented in a casual but meaningfull context (like paying for something and you forgot to exchange your Hongkong Dollars into Euros etc). |

Most of my friends (as well as banks) like to keep their money to themselves, unless their is a thing called interest attached! And I myself am not so crazy about passing around my hard earned greenbacks.

Prophet looks like it has little to offer, at least from the quick flick we are given on the demo. (Wham bam, thank you ma'am.) I just wish to God mine would arrive in the mail.

I carry five folded ones in my pocket right next to the Extreme Burn packet. When I put the EB packet away I just do a quick "switch" and lay the packet of ones out for people to look at. It took me awhile to get a good smooth, natural and clean "switch" but a little practice fixed that. I can switch out the packets pretty much without thinking now.
If someone asks why I put the money in my pocket I just say something like "if you had money that could do this wouldn't you want to keep it in a safe place?" Sounds a bit corny but seems to work and gets a good laugh. People don't always want to see the money but for the times that they do this is my solution, It's worked for me so far and I haven't been "busted" yet.
It's not the size of the wand that matters, it's the "magic" in it...

A very beautiful piece of magic indeed.
I love the color contrast of the "newer" $10 bills (i.e. the yellow-orangish) to the $1. As usual, Richard has put out another well-taught, EXTREMELY thorough ( those who have it know what I mean) DVD. BTW- the changes look impossible, but the gimmick makes them SOOOOO easy to execute.

One thought I had was using this gimmick to do a transposition. 20's in wallet. 1's in hand. They switch places. It would take a ton of heat off those changed bills and provide you with pleanty of time for a very subtle pocket switch (opposite pocket of wallet; both hands go to pockets). This could also be done to switch bills out without the transposition. Both hands go to pockets to pull out wallet (as if you didn't know which pocket wallet was in). Right hand comes out with wallet. Left hand trails a split second behind and comes out with switched bills. As you're about to put them away, you can ask if anyone would like a "closer look." If you can work in a switch that you're comfortable with, this is what great visual magic is all about.

That reminds me of a switch from Paul Harris's Art of Astonishment Book...where he switches a Hershey bar wrapper openly behind a wallet.(If anybody is familiar with it.) I'm wondering if this switch might be possible here.

I just got the DVD from Hank Lee's -- I'm excited to build the gimmick, but is anyone else's DVD extremely low in volume once the introduction section begins? The trailer seems fine and then I can barely hear anything....
