What is your preferable size for spongeball routines and what would be your favorite spongeball book?

Size doesn't matter
Seriously, use the size that you think is appropriate. For more visibility try a larger sponge ball, for close up and personal you can use a smaller ball. Having said that, I usually use 2 inch balls, but will play with 3 inch soon. I think it's a bigger surprise. when the balls expand in the spectator's hand. Marty

I use both 1.5 inch and the standard 2 inch supersoft sponge balls, very little difference in them. Use the 1.5 largely because I teach a lot of children and the smaller ball works better for them. Best books, well there are a lot of sponge ball books out there. Some swear by Garcia's Encylopedia of Sponge Ball Magic, which is no longer in print and comes at a premium price, and I own a copy and it is a very informative book, but there are a lot of sources for sponge balls besides that text and they are excellent.
You will find this site a wonderful source of info on sponge ball instruction material http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/magspong.htm

I use 2" balls, and I love Mark Wilson's Complete course(it is a great multi-tasker). Another good option for sponge balls is the SPONGE DVD by Jay Noblezada.

For the longest time I used one inch sponge balls and my mind was changed when I saw Steve Hart lectured. He used really big balls and I am now a believer.

I use all sizes, sometimes mixing 1",2",3" all in the same routine.

My favorite is the 2" super soft. Rather than mix sizes I prefer to mix colors. Size changes don't always register with the audience. Color does.

There's a video by Hampton creatinos which has some rather very nice vanishes and produces, color changes, and coin purse productions with sponges. It's a video tape.

There is a hilarious version of the paper balls over head, done with sponge balls. It requires very little in the way of sleights, just a lot of boldness and proper handling of the spectator...
