Vick...Thanks for sharing your experiences! You understand the issue. These kids have a predetermined idea of a magic show.
If we can as individual performers, create a unique show that is totally different and much 'more cool' than what they expect..well you know the answer. Rich A.E.R.P.W.N.C.L.B.C. |

Thanks Rich
Don't want to get too much into what and how I present but I did craft an opener just for those shows that included a transformation in the opening piece that had a prominent place changing to Blue and Gold to honor their dinner and many illusions were told in story form, about conjurers from the middle ages with special "books" or "bags", then to the influences of Robert-Houdin (with reference to "the Illusionist" and Orange Tree) and Dia Vernon (I like asking the scouts if they ever heard of Dia Vernon and then explaining a little about Vernon and how magicians today may be using techniques Vernon either invented or refined and not knowing where/who they came from) Plus it helps if you produce or throw a little fire ;-) Adding the well timed joke or funny piece goes a long way too once you've established the pace and demeanor of the show oops I think I've said too much

Yes Vick! That is exactly what they were not expecting.Storytelling and Magic make a nice combo.
I do not think the fire entree is necessary...and IMO is a bit risky.Ok a flash cotton flash from fist is pretty mild[if that is what you are referencing]...but still...personally...I avoid all fire..totally unecessary IMHO.So many other amazing effects available that are not fire related. Hey man,I am small time...with limited resources...and a liability policy that doesn't cover fire effects.Fire is unpredictable. So,I prefer to sleep soundly when I hit the sack. It's just not worth it. Let's consider a major pro like Jeff Hobson who does a great and 'seemingly' carefree fire eating routine. You can bet that Mr.Hobson has all his bases covered..just in case anything should go wrong.Mr.Hobson is so aware of liability, that he personally escorts helpers onto the stage...holding on to them for safety.See how serious this liability biz is? Please forgive my poor attempt at humor about fire which is as you pointed out a very serious issue
