Reuben Gazer and I are now beginning to film a Youtube series of us performing magic live in real situations with a whole range of reactions (including some bad ones if they occur). Please enjoy and we would appreciate a view and a subscription.

Did you notice the spectators saying things like "I bet the card is in his mouth"?

That is not good when the card is in your mouth.

Yes, but he is a heckler as well and he has, I believe, seen the effect before a few times. The same guy also grabbed Reuben's pockets during another effect we filmed

Not too bad, good to see live performances. This should be in the "You Oughta Be On TV" forum though.

That is a perfect example of how most card tricks only amuse card magicians.

The way those girls were dressed man, magic should be the LAST thing on your mind son. In the first video that is.

The last time I competed in a close up magic competition I announced at the begining of my performance that I will not be doing any card tricks, and I got a big round of applause from all the magicians at the meeting.

In my opinion a good magic trick gets applause. I am only trying to point out the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

Teenagers never applaud for our magic. Their reactions, to us, say it all.

I do not expect you to agree with me, or understand what I'm talking about, but perhaps there is someone out there reading my post that will get the message. I repeat a good magician will get applause from audiences for his magic. I have done post prom parties, and I had no trouble getting both applause, and laughter from teenagers.

These guys have been pretty much limited to Criss Angel and David Blaine in regards to magic exposure. How do their spectators react? Pretty much the same way as our spectators did in the newest videos. If it's not formal then why the heck would they clap? It's like watching Blaine... did you ever see anyone applaud for him?

I've gotten applause from teenagers who were only limited to Criss Angel. It may be that I'm a bit older than them, or it might be just how I present it. I never had anyone walk around filming me to evaluate.

As Josh pointed out, there is more to a magician than a deck of cards, and a lot of flashy moves.

Understood. I'm not saying I never get applause, I am just saying that I normally do not and that is is most certainly not my fault. It's not that they don't like it or think it is strong enough at all. Although, now that I think about it, appluase for me has most frequently come from a larger crowd. When there is a crowd of about 15-20 people around me and I finish a set, I get applause. Although, as you can see, I have only so far performed for groups of 3-10 in my first video. In the future, I hope to catch a truly magical moment on film.

Also, it may be because most of us are around the same age and therefore I am considered more of a peer. Presentation is something I really strive to contruct for every effect I do. I abolutely hate doing an effect and simply narrating my own actions. I don't swee presentation as being a major part of obtaining applause.

My final thought: Considering that the video in question was not a final effect or stand-alone effect, therefore I gave them more reason to applaud. At the end of the set Iwill thank them for watching and take a small, humble bow. That's the applause cue and I hope to get it on film for Westmount Magic. I truly feel magical when I receive applause.

Now that we are all on the same page I think you have a good foundation, but if you put together a smoother presentation, and try to work the crowd then you will get applause. Your profile says you are an actor, but you are not using any acting skills in your magic. Don't try to sell them flourishes, sell them a magician.
Good Luck
