Chris,
I guess you intend not to insult me - and rest assure, I will not go down the way you did just now. However, insulting someone for posting a different opinion about a product is rather poor. Andy

Andy, no harm, no foul. We all have different tastes. There's things I don't care for that some folks love.
Sorry you had a bad day. We all have those too! Rock on!! Chris

Hi Guys
Watch out for super "Convention Only" deals on the Chris Priest DVD Trilogy at the Kentucky Magic Convention. Chris will also be there in Person throughout the convention and he would love to talk to you about all of his routines. best regards Jaz |

Having had the 'Protons' DVD for a while, I found Chris Priest to be a good, clear teacher of a very strong routine.
When I brought it, I knew that it required a gimmick for certain phases. Although I think the gimmick use is both logical and effective, I won't really be using these techniques as I think that I would rather continue to develop my skills without it. It was still a good buy, as the presentation and structure are very strong. |

I liked this DVD:

I didn't like it. The routine involved an extra gimmick, which is not easily available unless you live near a magic shop that stocks them. For his finish, you also require a set of D'Lites, which just adds to the clumsiness of searching your pocket for the gimmick at the right time.
If you only did this one routine, and had just the gimmicks needed in your pockets, then this might be okay. But if you have other props like elastic bands, card or forks in your pocket, then the execution of this routine is going to be very awkward when searching for the gimmick and slipping it on unnoticed. There are tons of sponge ball routines out there, and many sponge ball DVDs. All of which don't require the use of any special gimmick, just your hands and balls. For that reason, they are a better choice in my opinion. I was searching for a sponge ball routine which utilised the pockets, to give you a reason for going in there, as part of the patter. I have seen several live routines, but none on DVD as yet. I was hoping this was going to be one of them, and alas, it is not. The routine itself is sound, and will work. But the extra gimmicks make it impractical for a magician who needs to offer a variety of tricks and find a paticular prop at any given time. just my opinion. |

My thoughts
it's a very long routine with use with and without a gimmick(the gimmick is accessable to buy as sponge balls are) the rest of the routine does not use a gimmick, chris suggests that you do not have to do the whole routine and I don't. for myself I have picked out parts I like and parts I don't like and added it to my existing routine. I have looked at a lot of routines in the past and this is a great dvd some ideas I have not seen before some I have, there is also some work on subtleties here that I have not seen before i.e. to show the hand empty etc... (which was worth the price of the dvd). the ending is a d'lite ending which again doesn't have to be done but with the spectators reactions it would be worth it, here in the UK d'lites are not as common as they are in America (they floor people here). if you know anything about getting a tt in play it is very much the same thing. (david stone has a cool idea in vol 2 of his coin magic dvd and I am sure there are more ideas for easy accessability) I wholeheartedly recommend this dvd as well as the coin magic and card magic dvd Chris Priest has released (some great ideas that I have added to my own routine) luke

Looking at my post I'm not happy as there are no negatives so have just rewatched the dvd and the negative that jumped out at me is that Chris Priest doesn't seem comforatable with the words he uses it's very disjointed and risqu'e. certainly not my style.
anyway hope this review helps luke
