So will the new Gecko DVD be purchased separately?
I am wondering because I have already purchased the Gecko... and I am hoping you can buy the DVD separately, rather than have to purchase the entire Gecko product again..... |

How's the gripping power on the Gecko Dex? I really love the stuff that came with it but having to frequently replace it becomes a bit of a pain (I actually carry about a dozen of the stuff in a little baggie when I have the Gecko on me).

It works wonderfully on every item I have used it to vanish. I've been using it for thread work too. It leaves no yucky residue like a wax ball does. It will help make a doubled card in a hurry very quickly for emergency gaffs. If it was available in white, I'd buy some more immediately. It would probably turn gray pretty fast though.
I just wish you could get it in the jumbo-economy size. :o) dsalley13 PS: I keep the layer of Gecko-Dex covered with a thin sheet of cut to size (of the gimmick/gaff) Mylar when not in use, to keep it clean and to keep it from sticking to everything. The stuff is amazing. I find it much easier to use than the other secret material the Gecko came with. |

Gecko Dex is meant to vanish small/lighter items. It`s not as strong as the original Gecko product but it can be used over and over again.
I believe the new DVD will be sold seperately. |

Okay, I got my Gecko in the mail on Monday. I viewed the DVD, read the instructions, and tried the gimmick out. I used my suit jacket that I use for my shows, I used my leather dress coat, and I even used a hoodie. I am not impressed at all. (I purchased mine online from Ellusionist)
Now, before I go on to give this a very bad review, it could be possible that I have a defect, or missing something. I have two premade gimmicks that are identical, so I can't tell which one is for heavier items and which one is for lighter items. I also got a clear **** (you know what) in a seperate bag which the DVD explains about. I have used both gimmicks to try and make a simple thing as a coin disappear, but the snapping force and the obvious flutter of my jacket is a complete dead give away. Just so you know, I have had the Raven for a few years now, and have never incountered this problem with it. I made some adjustments to the gimmick, but I can't get away from the loud snapping sound. My leather jacket was the worst, as you can tell why. Even with a hoodie there is a loud snapping. Angles have nothing to do with it. Does anyone else have this problem with the Gecko. I thought this would be an improvement over the Raven, but it's absolutely no good to me as it is. I am assuming that my Gecko is faulty because of all the reviews I've read seems to give this thing high praise. Any help from anyone who owns this would be appreciated. Thanks folks, and Merry Christmas to all!

I actually just finished reading all 19 pages here and I see that others are having the same problem. I think I'm smart enough to perhaps do something about the loud snapping sound,( more adjustments) however, anymore adjustments and my gimmick will be exposed. Again, it looks like I got two identical gimmicks, no difference at all between them. Maybe I got two heavy gimmicks, I don't know. The DVD was very poor, and the sheet with brief instructions is not sufficient enough for me.

The Gecko has been getting mixed reviews. Yes, the DVD is poor and the written instructions don't cover much, but it teaches you the basics and then it's up to the owner to run with it and learn on the way. I've found ways around the issues and the new DVD will have all of them. I've found ways to reduce or even eliminate the noise, different ways to vanish items that make it almost self-working and foolproof, subtleties, etc. It will be a must buy IF you want to give the Gecko a second chance. If you just plain don't like it then don't even bother buying the new DVD because it won't change what the Gecko is.

I originally wrote my personal review of the Gecko, but decided to edit it out. It may still be possible that I have a defect.

Well if you can't tell which Gecko is which then you definitely received two of the same gauge. I doubt it's defective though, I mean it's a pretty organic gimmick. It is what it is.

You're right. Even after using both of them I can't tell which is which. It may seem that I got two light object pulls instead of one of each. No sticky back sa** paper either. The contents looked like they were opened before I got them. Nothing was sealed except the secret stuff. I was recently told that's what I get when I order from E, but I've ordered from E before with little to no problems. I suppose it's time to give E a call. They have been good in exchanges for me in the past. Maybe they'll send me another one to replace this one. Then, I'll be able to give a fair review.

Just because it's in YOUR junk drawer, doesn't mean it's junk to another. It's not a huge mystery to ponder over. Some people like some things, others like different things.

However, I've recently made a few modifications to my Raven using one of the concepts of the Gecko and have come up with an extremely effective gimmick that works perfect fo me. I owe it to the creator of the Gecko not to ask for a refund because although I probally won't use the Gecko, I will be using my new gimmick based slightly on the idea of the Gecko, which I wouldn't have thought of if it wasn't for me knowing how the Gecko works.

It's not condescending at all. I'm saying it's not a huge mystery that you think it's crap and yet others are liking it.
I could have summed up my post as follows: "Different strokes for different folks." |

No, you're still being patronizing by "explaining" to me that other people don't think The Gecko is junk.
Sorry for going off topic. I personally think I wasted my money on it as there are better methods out there (for me anyway) for vanishing a small object. The sticky dot idea was neat but does not grip items as well as a cheap Vernet pull does. Also, in my opinion this product was unprofessionally made and assembled. Sorry if my honest opinion upsets you or others. I don't mean it to hurt anyone just help. Help save someone a little money and save frustration in magic. I think that is why a lot of dabblers never take up magic. They buy some cheap plastic gimmick and get disillusioned when it doesn't let them do magic like Copperfield,Blaine, etc.and especially if it cost them $65. I bought the Gecko to expand my knowledge, that's great. But, the pretty box will stay on the shelf forever.

Calm down folks. The thing makes a sound and makes SOME shirts/jackets/vests flutter. I wouldn't use mines in quiet situations but if it's outside with street noise or inside a bar/club/casual restaurant with ambient chatter, I love it. I don't vanish borrowed items unless it's something that I take off the table like a salt shaker or what not because truthfully, I wouldn't want to try to retrieve objects that I vanish with the Gecko.
It fits what I want from a magic apparatus: 1) Packs small 2) Invisible in operation 3) Does what it's intended to do and does it well 4) Ease of use without fumbling around or awkward moves/positions Here's reasons you should not get it: 1) If absolute silent operation is required. 2) If you absolutely HAVE to produce the vanished object. As to DVLKCC's comment about the sticky dots, I love the sticky dots, nothing I've come across is as sticky as the sticky dots. The problem however is that if you don't cover the sticky dots with something when not in use, they become non-sticky because of dirty and oils getting on them. They also do not adhere to anything moist, but then again, I don't think anything adheres to moist objects. The gimmick I also felt was put together using very good materials. BUT I must agree with DVLKCC that there are DEFINITELY better methods for vanishing objects, such as a topit, but I don't like altering my jackets so I was never very keen on topits. So, all in all, look at the criterias and see which category you fall into before you purchase a Gecko. If you look back in history, lot's of people loved the Raven but there are also quite a few that REALLY disliked it because of similar issues that people are now having with the Gecko (particularly noise and fluttering). It took quite some time for people to figure out how to use the Raven while preventing the noise and fluttering issue. From my own personal experience, the Raven was not really a one size fit all gimmick, it required personal adjustments and that took quite some time, the same for the Gecko. You really have to play around with the adjustments before you hit the sweet spot when you finally get rid of the fluttering and the noise is minimized to be negligible. Also a few hints on using the Gecko, the lighter the object, the more noise it's going to make. Objects with a bit of weight are more silent when you vanish them. The gimmick for lighter weight objects is the ideal one to use, the heavy weight gimmick will make it very hard to kill the noise with most objects. Your fingers also plays a important role, many complain that they flash the gimmick, use the method on the vide to fix the flashing and also use the clear gimmick as I have found it to have better cover. Thanks for reading another one of my essays |

DVLKCC: When I said it wasn't condescending, I meant it wasn't MEANT to be condescending. I was just stating the obvious.
I can't believe you guys are allowed to mention the secret to the Gecko. |

kissdadookie Inner circle 4275 Posts |
Not that big of a secret as we all can deduce what the Gecko is. But the way it's constructed and hooked up is the key ingredient which you can't really learn unless you actually own it and watched the instructions. Also the actual items you receive is hard to match since it's been picked to work for the Gecko's specific purposes. The whole system as a whole I feel is very thought out because you can definitely tell that actual use of the Gecko was part of it's creation since everything was done a certain way or certain materials were picked due to its impact on the system.
