I am looking for instructions for making egg skins.
I saw the egg on jeff McBrides tape and like the effect. Can anyone tell me how to make one or where to find instructions?

It is described in Routined Manipulation by Lewis Ganson. Soak duck egg only, in white vingar for 3 days. Hard to find the duck eggs. Will not work with chicken eggs, they are too fragile.

Don't buy the latex version of this effect. Every one that I have seen flatten out. I think they are made by Magic Makers...

The Latex version are just like using a real duck egg. I have used both for over 40 years. There is no difference. If you don't want your eggs to get a flat spot, do not put them on a flat surface. Put them in a curved container. I kept my latex egg in a small box. powdered with corn starch. Keep in a temp. controled place or the freezer, if not using for a long time.
I have no experience with Magic Makers product. |

Check out Geoffery Durham's new book "Professional Secrets- My Life in Magic". He spends a chapter explaining and disecting the egg on fan. he also gives a detailed account of making egg skins.
The rest of the information in the book is also priceless. Check it out Fawlkes |

My luck with all latex eggs since Weller quit making them have not been close to acceptable. Flattening is only one of their problems. Don't waste your money. Duck eggs will certainly work. But replacing the egg is an on going business that really made the Weller egg even more attractive. The people in Asia are willing to invest much more time and effort into the effects like this than magicians I have known in the Western world. (Perhaps that is why they invented the trick!) Bill is right about chicken eggs. Even if they soften without self-destructing, the color isn't the same. Even duck eggs come off on the pinkish side at times but at least they are tougher. I would certainly welcome a good supplier in that field. Learn to make them as good as the Weller Eggs. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Is there a formula that I am missing? When I make my gimmicks, in a matter of a week I start seeing mould grow on them.
Thank you. Best, DF |

That is because it is a natural object - it's bound to go mouldy. As isaacfawlkes has kindly pointed out, in my book I give full details of how to combat the process and create an egg skin that lasts literally for ever - or until you tear it.
The short answer, though, is to dry it as soon as it is made. There are various ways to keep it fresh once it is reconstituted from its dried state. Keeping it in alcohol works for me. Once you've used a skin egg and learnt the simple way to store it, I don't think you'll ever be tempted to use a latex substitute. |

This is totally off topic but your book is wonderful. I love you linking finger ring ideas. The book was recommened to me by Denny Heanny at Denny and Lee Magic in Baltimore MD. Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences and practical knowledge with all of use. Too bad other people will read this book and use the material in it, it's way to good for everyone to know. But Thanks again. Isaac Fawlkes http://www.isaacfawlkes.com |

Thank you very much. I'm delighted that you've found the book to be useful and very grateful to Denny, too, for championing it. The response from magicians since PROFESSIONAL SECRETS came out three months ago has been just amazing. In particular, customers in the UK have bought four times the numbers we predicted. The first printing is now almost sold out, and a small new batch has just arrived. I've decided that when they are gone, there will be no more. Good luck with your magic. Thanks again. A quick thought as to storing egg skins. How about a "deviled egg" container? It would be a Tupperware-type thing with spaces for 12 eggs shaped nicely for eggs on their sides.
You might want to consider just keeping an empty carton and hold the skins in that, although being on end might not be good. This is "blue sky" for me, I've never made egg skins nor had to store them, but it sort of popped into my head.

AS far as latex goes, the best one I have seen is the PERFECT EGG available on hocus-pocus.com . . IT really is the most realistic one I've used. . though you MUST powder it after cleaning.
Does anyone know where to actually buy duck eggs? I'd love to know. . |

Do you have to moist the egg skin every time you perform with this real egg skin?
as my egg skin turns to paper texture when it dries.

What is an egg skin used for? I have hollowed out an egg before to use for snowstorm, but this isn't the same usage?

Also, there's a unique egg bag routine in Tarbell 2 using a hollow egg, a regular egg and a latex egg. I thought an egg skin might be ok for that.
