Actually I meant both wide and thick. Because the rubber disk goes across the entire diameter of the bottom of the cup there is no rim to keep a ball on top.
By replacing it with a much thinner piece of material that also has a smaller diameter a ball will stay on top, and is constrained by the rim. That said, your point about using these without altering them is a good one. |

Another $tarbux tip- if you put a "java sleeve" on the small (tall?) cups, it produces have enough of a rise to nest 3 good sized balls. Use a gentle touch, though, because the cups have no weight to keep them down on the table...
someone told me of a GREAT method of modifying a $tarbux small cup to make a wicked chop cup, but I don't want to tip the method publicly.

Even better, click on the image in my profile. We need some good articles like that.

These are the regular sized coffee mugs, right? and not the little espresso stackable cups?

Yes, they're the regular ones. The rounded bottoms mean they don't hold as much coffee as a standard mug though. Good for Starbucks, bad for coffee drinkers.
They have stackable espresso cups? Where's my credit card???

My Starbuck cups arrived last week. I see some possibilities with them.

I kind of like these for cups and balls and my morning coffee, particularly with how innocent they are if I have someone over the house and I just take them out of my cabinet and perform some magic. Yet, one of my three cups just broke. So I don't know if starbucks still makes them, but if someone is looking to sell one to three of them, please PM me. Thanks

Talk about resurrecting an OLD thread. Anyone know where you can still find these? Two years ago when they were on shelves, they were sold out when I returned. I wanted to find them again, but no luck online. Anyone?

I doubt anyone cares (HAHAHA) but I was on a trip to Oregon and randomly found two of these mugs in the gift shop! Can you believe that? These are two years old. Now the hunt is on for ONE more to complete the set. Just though someone out there might find this amusing. It's interesting what happens by "chance."

Sadly, Christopher, you already invested in two cups. Also sadly, I didn't find this thread earlier. If you have a Cost Plus World Market around you, they have sets of 8 stackable mugs, in both regular, and espresso sizes. They cost only around 10 dollars and for a set of 8 you have penty of spares if you break one. They also have a great selection of sake cups. I spent ages playing with all these cups in the store, even doing impromptu routines for other customers with toys in the store. I still haven't invested, but I like the idea of keeping something around the house that you can actually use, and using it as a magic prop when the time comes.

Hey Alex,
Thanks for the info! I recall seeing these cups at Cost Plus as well. I think one of the colors they offer is dark brown, which is ideal as a background against white balls. I've always planned to get a set of them as well. I wanted the starbucks set in particular because of the stainless steel bottom. Luckily, I found a third on ebay! Thanks again. |
