Yeah, I guess Penguin Magic sold out this one! It's a great packet effect that I relish very much. Have you tried the other web distributors?

I know it is by Gerry Griffin - first known as Paradigm Shift. The old posts here have obsolete sources and there are no matches with dealers I have check with....

How does this compare to John Bannon's Royal Scam?
I heard they are very similar. Is this true?

Yes - I have recently purchased Royal Scam and after seeing video of QOOC it is too similar - I'll stick with RS....

Thanks Robert. I have QOOC but never used it, and was thinking about getting RS.
Guess I'll stick with QOOC since I have it.

Does anyone own both tricks?
Just curious: - which one has the best patter? - which one has the best impact in the end? (based on your own experience, no the demo videos of course...)
My English sucks, I know it. It's probably better than your French anyway...

I have both. I would point out that Queens Out of Control, originally called Paradigm Shift by Gerry Griffin, came first, I have been doing it for several years.
I prefer Griffin's original. Best regards, Glenn Godsey |

Another related effect is Roy Walton's "Montmartre" which can be found on p.162 of "The Complete Walton Vol. 1". This one dates back to around 1974.

I'm not going to lie, Queens Out of Control is a pretty sweet effect.
I really don't know what you mean bikoz about which has the best patter. I'd say that entirely depends on the performer. The same goes with impact to some degree, for that matter.

I love doing Queens Out of Control, but the best part is at the end when the spectators grab the cards to try and catch me using gimmicked cards, which of course, I don't. As far as patter goes, I developed my own to suit my personality.

On seeing 'Queens Out Of Control' for the first time, I immediately bought it and practiced it (ordering the setup to ensure the colourful backs alternated nicely took me ages!).
Since then, the trick has remained in a box. This is mainly because I do not see myself performing the trick with the original patter and never came up with a suitable alternative. 'Royal Scam' has, in my opinion, a more useful presentation. But I don't think the effect is quite as powerful. It's a matter of weighing up the pros and cons. I do like that 'Royal Scam' uses USPCC cards, as this would fit better with my other cards. That said, with enough packs, I'm sure you could muster up enough queens to make up your own version anyway. If anyone has any tips on a less quaint presentation of 'QOOC' I'd love to hear them.. I say that because as far as I know, Gerry Griffin sold only Paradigm Shift in Bicycle-back cards and he sold QOOC only in Aviator-back cards. (Note: I realize that at the end, the Paradigm Shift cards are not all Bicycle-back cards. But, up until the surprise ending/climax, the only card backs the audience see are Bicycle-back cards.) Mike

To be fair, 'Queens Out Of Control' also ends clean...

Both tricks don't have to be done with all different colored backs. Just make the odd color cards either red or blue. The impact is the same, and you can use all Bicycle cards that way. Give it a try, and let me know how you make out.

Is it really the same? The colors as the punch line in RS are stunners - more so I think than all red or blue backs....

I had some cards made up by Marty on Bike stock with all different colors. The colors are vivid and really add to the effect.
Both RS and QOOC are nice effects that I like to do.

I had Neil Lester make up some Tally Ho (Garfield) coloured backs for QOOC. It prompted my closing line, "Look at these cats!"
I've just purchased RS, but haven't looked at it properly yet. But I'm guessing it'll be one or the other, not both, in any card set. Posted: Aug 19, 2008 12:41pm -------------------------------- Hmmm - I'm a bit disappointed with RS to be honest. It's def QOOC for me. There's too much of a discrepancy with RS. There is a similar one with QOOC for sure, but the RS one is too obvious for my liking. Shame, JB's stuff is usually a sure-fire winner, but this is off to you-know-where! |
