What do you guys use to backpalm and produce singles? I have heard that Steamboats are good, but these are not available in London. At the moment I just use BEES.
What do you use in performance and practice with? M@t |

I use Bees. Steamboats are much harder to come by here in the States.

I like using Murphys cards. They are super thin and I can back palm a lot more.

I use Bees for split fan productions, snap productions and when practicing Cardini Single Card Productions. I use Norm Nielson cards for CSCP. I love the Norm Nielson cards, I have used Murphy's production card and they are quite good also. I have a deck of Peter Marvey cards and I do not like them.

I tried the Norm Nielson deck several years ago, but I just never developed a liking or comfort with the thinner cards. I use Bees for the simple reason that they have no back border (and they're easy to find).
For me it's just what suits you and what feels comfortable. Steven

I also use Bees. I can backpalm quite a lot but the thickness is a hinderance no matter how strong your hands are. I'm going to look into the Nielsen and/or Murphy cards. I hope that my few years of practice with "regular" cards will make using manipulation cards much nicer!

I prefer Norm Nielsens. They are just perfect to me, but it`s just my opinion...

Norm Nielson's cards are the less expensive manipulation cards on the market, I think they are around $7.95. Which is fantastic!
I also have Juliana Chens, Marvey's etc. As I said before I use Bee's, but if anyone is looking for good cards at a great price, go with the Norm Nielson cards. Lance Burton also has some cards out, and Jeff McBride had some cards made up which are a skin tone color on the back, with his mask picture, and they have a diamond "bee" design. I think they are Gemaco's. |

The only way to find the best cards for you is to buy a few different brands - Neilsen, Marvey, Chen, McBrde etc.
We can recommend cards we use, but we can't say they will be your favourite. Everybody has a personal opinion on everything. Please don't feel like I am ranting, I just don't want you to be disappointed if you buy the Neilsen deck (which I have used in the past, and liked) and find that you don't like them. As the old saying goes 'One man's junk is another man's treasure' Just keep that in mind, and if you can afford to buy a few brands of manipulation cards, do so. I have tried the Marvey Super thin cards, thinking he used them for his routine and I was dissapointed. There may be someone else, however, who bought these and loves them. Just an example... I like the Neilson cards because of the display you get, Neilson have the 4 pip display, Marvey's have corner pips only. Murphy like Neilson have the 4 pip display, don't like Chens very much do to the white and black backs. McBrides are ok

I prefer Bee decks and I break them in the way Jeff McBride shows on his videos.

The Scot: Kevin said it best. Just try out your own and have some fun doing it. It is a persona preference. For me, it's the Neilson's. For some one else, it's going to be another. The answer is up to you, my friends.
Cheers. Leon.

I agree with Scott, I love the Nielson cards and I too have had a similar experience with the Marvy cards. If you look, you will notice in Marvy's appearance on the World's Greatest Magic special that he is using Bee brand cards.
Almost forgot, concerning the Julianna Chen cards, I had a chance to meet and talk with her after a performance and asked her about the backs of her cards. She told me she liked the contrast of the black and white backs because she felt they are better seen on stage, I agree. As a side note concerning Ms. Chen; she is a class act on and off the stage. Very charming and friendly, she was very willing to take what I considered a long time with me to talk about manipulation, cards, stage etc. If you every get a chance to meet her, go for it and you will not be disappointed. |

I too noticed Marvey never used his own cards on stage, just like we will probably never see him performing his card through window!

I think Marvey was just looking to put out manip cards to get some sales; and allow people to attempt some of the effects with cards he performed. It was a good selling point and technique, and the cards are a little pricy, but not bad.

I don't like how most manip cards aren't poker size. That's the reason I use bees. Also, red seems to blend better with my hand than dark brown.

I started with Bicycle but gave Norm Nielsen's cards a try. I like them both an awful lot. Bicycle are great, but you have to do many more steals. If you use Norm's, the steals are minimal because you can backpalm more of them.
